I used to have one on my last bike and am getting another one for my new bike. I just wanted to see what kinds people have installed on their bikes before I buy the same $12 cheap one from Can. Tire.

I'm only looking for the all-weather, cigarette type outlets - to charge my cell or GPS or whatever...

My old one looked like this:

I'm using the same charger as your pic Shane; have one on my V-Strom and on the Ninja 250 before it. Never had any trouble with it other than being a tad awkward to install. But it beats making holes in the plastics. :)

Have a similar cheapie as you Shane. Has held up for over 5 years now. What did you get after the wee-strom?

Yeah I was thinking that the one I had might be the best for the money, but wasn't sure if there was a better looking one for a similar price locally.

I bought the 2011 version of the DL. I have a Pat Walsh radar shelf and want to mount it underneath it.

Also check out Princess Auto. They have stuff like this.

are these relatively easy to install? i wanna have it so it charges my iphone, allowing me to use it as a GPS. wouldve been very helpful for my first time to sauble.

Have a combo lighter socket/USB port purchased from Twisted Throttle, have it wired through a fused distribution relay.

I had an identical one as pictured in the OP but lost it before I got around to installing it. Recently bought a different one that has a rubber cap instead of the plastic flip cover. What I don't like about both of these is the mounting flange. I can't seem to fine one locally that mounts via a screw-n-cap method (like an interior-use outlet) rather than a side mount. Not a biggie right now since I have it stuffed under the seat anyway but I'd eventually like to flush mount it somewhere.

yes, these are incredibly easy to install. Usually takes only a few minutes unless you have to remove fairings to route the wires.

As for Powerlet, I have some their heated gear which I like very much, but when it comes to something as basic as this, I don't want to spend that kind of money on it (as much as I like DSP as well). My last outlet was $10 and lasted me 2 bikes and about 100k, so I'd prefer to keep it on the cheap.

With mounting, I plan on just using industrial velcro to keep it adhered to the dash shelf. I use the velcro stuff with my voltmeter and it doesn't budge.

Thanks for the suggestions and links so far...

I thought I saw a new one in the neighborhood.

Power outlets are really easy to install. I would suggest you install a fuse block while you at it with a relay off a running light. When I put mine in think it took about 15 min and a beer to do. Bought the parts at PA. Cheapest place I could find.

I put an all weather USB port from Princess Auto ($6.99) and two way taped it to the triple tree. It's hardly noticeable. I use it to charge my blackberry when I know I'll be riding all day.

You mean you have machines WITHOUT built in power ports....how quaint - no glove boxes either I bet ;)

I noticed you're using the apple wallwart. Is that an AC socket or did you install an inverter?

I'll take quaint over hideous any day of the week;)

I have a USB outlet already, but neither my phone nor my GPS can use one to charge off, so this is why I specifically wanted the cig outlet.

They are only hideous when open and very nice when riding :D Mind you a bit busy cockpit on the Burgman.
That said it's a very short powerport so you still have to hunt down a multi- outlet to make it useful for anything beyond a USB powerout.
