Abercrombie & fitch

they all do it. the CEO is just one of the few to say it. Besides, he's doing it because that attitude is good for sales.

Hey, Dove is help elevating self esteem for kids while A & F is destroying it. I'm curious as to which marketing strategy works

There has always been that feeling with A&F through their marketing. And it obviously works.

Maybe it will get some teens off the couch and to stop eating McDicks.

Myself, I'm one to make sure my clothing isn't "clique" brand clothing. I have a box of brand new shirts with tags still on them from gifts from places like Coach, A&F and the like. Mostly I won't wear advertisement for someone else just to "be cool".

Only thing I really care about is that my jeans are Wrangler... But I'm a country kid, so go figure I like what WalMart sells lol.

CEO sounds like a d0uche but I assume this is common practice for all shops that sell "cool" clothing where a size large is really a small. I've always hated A&F clothing anyway.

WHAT ABOUT THE TALL PEOPLE, they discrimating tall people, what are tall ******* going to wear now!?

Every marketing company hires good-looking people for that reason. Notice that the people giving crap out on the streets or sampling new products tend to all be attractive? It's called the halo effect and people think that whatever looks good is inherently good. It's also about brand association, and you don't want your product being associated with someone who looks like they reguarly get whacked in the face with a shovel.

Unfair? Yeah. Wrong? Most likely. But that's just how it is. All I could do was lower the bar a little bit by hiring slightly lower than industry standard to equalize things

Also, the only people whining about it on my fb are the ones who would never wear abercrombie...so I don't see the big deal. Abercrombie also paid Jersey shore to stop wearing their stuff because it didn't fit with their image. Every time they do something like this, they get more fans as they make themselves a more "exclusive" brand (even though everyone wears them).

A&F are a marketing low end fashion firm making rediculous margins selling to skinny folks, not unlike CDN retailer LeChateau. Young pretty people in there too.
Its posturing and a market position and will make them even more money since the beautiful people like the idea that fat people arent wearing A&F or LeChateau, or Chanel/Boss/LouBoutin or whoever.

Its the fashion business, its never been known as fair or equitable, it doesn't have to be. Joe Fresh and Marks Warehouse look after those other folks.

Whatever. If the world was less accommodating for fatties there would be less of them and we'd all be better off. McD should narrow their entrances so once you've had too much you can't get back in. (except they'll hit the drive thru then)

What if they've had too much and can't get out?

Dove is owned by Unilever. Unilever also owns Axe where their marketing strategy is to objectify women.

Two different companies with different marketing strategies owned by the same parent company.

Whatever gets money in the pocket!

People also seem to have forgotten when Dove got exposed for photoshopping their models.
Not even a shameless plug; it's just VERY relevant to the discussion:
"Berni" is inreb (btw, I wonder what happened to the guy)

Yup they don't care about the actual work ethic of their employees. I was in there a few times and I was approached and asked "Do you want a job because you look like you can work here." What a joke I can't take them seriously and most of their stuff is ugly and overpriced anyways. But so many companies do this they're just one of the few to openly admit it.

Its no secret that looks matter, in so many more ways than we realize. We ALL discriminate based on looks, even if we try not to be "that guy".
In my job, I make instant opinions on people. Right from the moment I first see them I'm judging, based on looks, body language and personal presentation.

Enough scientific studies have been done to show that better looking people are generally given more opportunities, make more money etc. It's part of being human, even babies prefer "better looking" people.

That said, just because you may not be "above average" that it's ok to let yourself go...

It gets better. They own Ben and Jerry's. So, if someone gets depressed by the image portrayed by their other products, they get them with the ice cream.

Win-win.

af **** is overpriced other than their occasional online sales...i like their plaid shirts, prep shorts, and bum clothes but hate anything that has a huge logo or brand spammed over their clothing (think affliction, ed hardy, a lot of armani g star etc etc)...

fitted clothing is where it's at...looking equally good in or out of clothes...goddamn idiotic brand logos don't make anyone look better other than tell ppl you spent too much money on your deep v neck.

As for this whole marketing ethics thing, there's nothing new there.

My cousin from Chicago actually works for them. I kid you not his only job is to stand in front of the store topless. He's a good looking kid but man do we tease him.
