A whole new world opened up with a helmet change for around town...

"Safety conscious" and skull caps helmets do not go well together.

I wear a modular, I can flip up the chin bar when I need to, but after witnessing a rider literally lose his nose and chin when his face hit the ground without any other injuries, I will not wear open face.

Also, the way traffic is in this city, you're more likely to have a get-off riding around town than anywhere else.

Think twice about that helmet man... if you go down you'll be in a world of hurt if you're lucky.

I wonder if a more motorcross helmet might be a decent compromise for in-town slower speed riding? Chin bar for protection but a heck of a lot more airflow than a typical full face helmet. I leave the visor up a notch or two plus all of the vents open and I get decent ventilation and cooling this way with my Icon Alliance helmet. Tricky compromise between comfort and protection. That is for sure...

I have used both over the years, one thing that always sticks in my mind is the visibility! I love the field of vision I have when I wear an open face helmet. Having said that, I currently ride a bandit 1200s and live in a small town, every ride involves 80km roads, full face for the wind and bugs. My shadow 1100 had a big windscreen, so it was never a problem. Wear what you want, ride what you want, aren't motorcycles supposed to be the ultimate expression of freedom?

This is nonsense. A good full face helmet should not impede peripheral vision in any way. Months of facial reconstrcution surgery and skin grafts is not freedom.
I've only had one low-speed crash, and I was flipped face first into curb, destroyed the helmet and visor, just bruised my face.

Careful or you'll wind up like this guy

Gary, Gary..oh Gary. He was the biggest opponent of helmet laws in California until he fell off his Harley at low speed and was in a coma. After that, he was all pro-helmet.

I like the Rick Moranis approach.

Some helmets have pretty darn good ventilation. I went from the Alliance to Bell Star and the difference is quite noticeable. The helmet is much more comfortable too.
