I have at least one riding buddy who's about 80% as well I think, although not sure about the camping thing...will have to ask him what his thoughts are on that. I'll probably toss it out amongst my riding buddy circle and see if there's any others interested as well, but as soon as I mention a 1000km day pretty much all of them are all "I'm out" lol.
7 riders and growing. I see a "cat herding" affair brewing.

People are putting a lot of faith in the vaccines, and I hope they're right. I'm not sure that the vaccine or previous exposure will lend immunity to the variants. I have heard second hand of someone getting covid twice

Well it should lower your viral load and it should reduce the worst symptoms if you get infected. It’s not guaranteed immunity.

For the original strain, I agree 100%. The reproduction rate for covid is 1.3 and I think higher for the variants. Vaccine is shown to drastically lower the 1.3 factor, but as far as I know the stats aren't out regarding the variants

7 ain’t bad.

We come up with a schedule and we stick to it.

If anyone isn’t feeling it and wants to split off to do their own thing, so be it, but I’ll be on the schedule. ?

Agreed. I think our last trip had 9. That said we had all ridden together on a few trips. What ruins it is if it's the same guy all the time who is last to be suited up. Or is constantly readjusting his load at every stop. Seen both happen.

So you tell THAT guy we're leaving a 6. Everyone else knows we're leaving at 7...

I’m the guy who gets on his bike, gets his gloves on, all ready go go….and then realizes his keys are in his pocket.

But that’s a quick fix lol.

Obviously someone has to last, just not every time.

No one should ever keep anyone waiting for too long if they can help it.

On the other hand I don't think anyone should be rushing anyone when it comes to getting ready to ride. You wouldn't want to force anyone to hurry up and get going and they forget something.
Or need to stop/pull over but feel pressured to keep quiet, so as not to upset the group.

Not sure how your rides work but with us if you fall behind just keep heading straight and we'll be waiting at the next intersection. Take too long though and someones headed back to find you.

As for rushing someone - if everybody but you is taking down their tent then you need a poke.

That doesn't really work on the JBR.

...and my rides are solo. Specifically because I don't want to be rushed, or held back by others. I've dabbled in group rides many times in the past but only a few have been a pace that I enjoyed.

Agreed. But I think my point still stands. As I said before, no one should hold up the group, but timetables should have some flexibility to them. There needs to be a happy middle ground between the militant schedule nazi and the slow as molasses dilly dallier.

When I went on my first big boy ride I did an IB1000 with 3 other bikes from GTAM. Never met the guys before except for 1 planning session.

It was me on my CBR250, a Busa, a ZX1100(?), and a Blackbird 1100(?).

Not once did I feel pressured with these guys. Actually they were awesome as I tooled along one would always stay with me or within eyesight, and the other 2 would go play in the curves. And they’d switch it up and rotate so I was never left alone. That was a good run for me for sure. Still made the ride in time, I just never submitted my paperwork.

I'd ride with those guys. I've abandoned my own race to help get a hurt friend out of the woods before.

Awesome! Sounds like some stand up folks.

Is it my imagination or is the search function much better....

seems so long ago..

I agree within reason, but a good guideline to use is to plan to be ready to ride 10-15 minutes before the scheduled departure. As was mentioned, don’t be that guy still sitting having coffee while everyone else has broken camp and is strapping their gear on their bike already. That’a just frustrating. If you did your best and somethings foiled your plans (tent wouldn’t fit in the bag or whatever) and you’re a few minutes late despite your best effort, that’s different. Still snoring in your tent and just waking up and coming out while everyone else is gearing up and the bikes are warming up - sorry, meet us at point B.

I’ve only ever motocamping with one other fellow who was very much on the same wavelength as me so far as the “eat sleep ride” - he’s an insane iron butt guy whose done the big ones like the 4 corners challenge and such and he’s doing the Hoka Hey this year or next. It was nice being on the same page so far as our riding style - gas stops didn’t even involve getting off the bikes usually. Did my first Iron Butt with him as well, 2100km in 19 hours.

I just went to Vancouver and back in 7 days, left downtown Vancouver Sunday morning and slept in my own bed Tuesday night.
In fact I left on Mar 27, was back home on April 4. Left again on April 7 and home on the 13.
Car or bike, I can put down the miles.
