Maybe someone from the insurance industry can answer that, but I'm pretty sure that's incorrect.
 
I've had short lapses numerous times between bikes, never been a problem. That's with Td.

I had a 2 year lapse on a car policy not long ago
working overseas so did make sense to have a cage here
bike policy was kept in place

when coming back to Ontario they used the bike policy as evidence of continued coverage
probably doesn't work the other way around though
