900,000 students coming in…

So? If they can't afford it, why should I subsidize their future meal ticket? We can't keep printing money for the pet projects of these cabinet ministers. It's unsustainable.
I don't disagree with you. About the only thing I liked about Trump was his border policy. However I hated the way he executed it.

My house has doors with locks. Immediate family with some exceptions can come anytime for as long as they want. You'll know who you are by having or not having a key.

More distant relatives and friends can call first or ring the doorbell and I'll open the door as appropriate. Unless arranged otherwise, bring your own lunch.

Trades to perform work leave when the work is done. They don't bring their entourages or families.

If a person shows signs of being helpful to the house in a long term way their privileges can be upgraded.

Our borders should be the same.

Starting Jan 1 2024, a single applicant will need to show they have $20,635, representing 75% of LICO, in addition to their first year of tuition and travel costs. This will be indexed to LICO every year. This is up from the current $10,000 requirement.

Other things in the works:

Students will be able to work 30 hours a week (vs current 20). This might remove some exploitation as students are often taking cash jobs at exploitive wages to make ends meet.

Removing the distance learning time credit for work permits. Currently, students can apply up to 50% distance learning credits, not they will need to be on campus to accrue study time.

Eliminating the 18-month work permit extension.

IRCC (Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship) will review all applications before issuing VISAs as a fraud control measure.

IRCC is qualifying schools, a “recognized institution” sets a higher standard, those schools will get priority processing of study permits.

All looks good to me.

Most of the Int. students I know, that are working cash jobs, are doing it to get around the limits on hours. Changing it from 20 to 30 won't make much of a difference..
They are plenty of cash jobs that pay the same as if they were working legitimately available to them... They don't need to work for "exploitive wages"
There are some large, well known companies that are full of international students working illegally.. Some times, it's a necessary evil for the companies to fill their labor requirements.
There are some law changes coming in the new year that will make it a little harder for them to be able to do that.. but it won't stop.

Free room and board!
I’m okay with refugees (Ukraine etc), illegal immigrants? Put them in front of a service officer for a deep dive, as they are illegal a modest cell should suffice. If they don’t pass the smell test then haul them in front of a judge and kick them.

What the hell are we doing here.

So I guess there won't be any party that considers slowing down immigration....

Hope everyone's jobs are secure, as the flood doors will open with cheaper alternatives.

Maybe we could work a deal with the southern USA and get a bunch of their illegal border tunneling immigrants to work on Toronto's cross town transit projects.

Let's see.
From where I sit and see on a daily basis (because of what I do), the problem isn't foreign trained and qualified foreign workers.
It's the volumes of student and PGWP holders that got here under dubious (and sometimes blatantly discreditable) education programs.

JT says "The budget will take care of itself"

The rest of the world says "If that's the brightest bulb on the tree we can make out like bandits."

I think this statement reflects the PC policy of removing the red tape and gatekeepers that keep well trained healthcare professionals working for Uber.

Keep these mofos coming in. Although I don't think the guy in the mask is a recent immigrant, it shows how emboldened some are becoming, and open hatred is becoming tolerated.

But can't say boo because one will be branded a racist.

Hope they find this mofo. I know if I was the cop hearing death threats in that environment...I wouldn't do anything either for fear of inciting a mob.

Many will lose the good paying jobs when pp comes to town. Just started doing some digging and it turns out he's a fan of the Chicago Boys school of economics. This should scare you.
Before you suggest I take a good look at Chile have a little look see at where Chile is today.

Who do you think is on the chopping block?

I'm convinced. Let's just keep lighting money on fire instead.

Pretty much anyone who does not already own a company. Are you a fan of charter schools and private medicine?
I am.

I’m also fortunate to have enjoyed both.

I really struggle with the idea that private for profit education and healthcare are a good thing. Faster and cheaper sure but better? (remember that cheap, fast, or good pick two??) If we look to the same model in the LTC sector I would say it has not turned out better.

Give Dofo and PP enough time and we will surely find out.

Owning a company isn't easy but owning part of a company isn't hard. Buy shares or mutual funds.

Go lean on toys and entertainment, putting the savings into the stock market. Re-invest the dividends.

It's hard if you make the minimum wage but if you're in that situation work a second job if you aren't studying to upgrade your skills to get a better job.

Chile looks good on paper to an economist but Chile has the second highest level of income inequality in the OECD, as measured by the Gini index.

It depends. The public system is bloated and has little incentive to improve efficiency. To get an appointment with my family doctor takes weeks at best. The kids had appointments one afternoon, my wife took them and the office was closed because there was a power outage in the morning and they had all gone home and didn't bother to notify patients in any way. Their pay is unaffected by their complete inability/unwillingness to do any work. I'd fire the doc and switch in a heartbeat but there are no alternatives available. Right now we don't have good, fast or cheap. We have picked zero in the quest for fairness. I would argue that is almost the worst outcome possible.
