If you were a kid in the 80's you know what these are. Very popular back in the day, had ton's of fun with them. Use to race off road competitively and blast around the neighbourhood.

Since my parents are downsizing their home I have to get my stuff from them.
A friend has been bugging me about them as they are interested in buying them. I've poked around on ebay to get a sense of the value.

I have some friends that were really into this going back about 15 years.
The amount of money they spent was crazy.

One of them built a track on his property up Airport Rd and held a few events there. Until he got sick of the participants trashing his property and leaving junk everywhere.

I want my son to get into RC soon. Right now he’s all ‘oooo shiny’ type of attention span lol

Maybe in a year or two he’ll be more into such things. Could be a good daddy / son type of hobby.

Honestly going back, not sure how I paid for all this stuff. Party why I stopped I was spending too much on this. The group of us were in deep, then everyone started to move in to gas cars. I just couldn't anymore.

You enjoyed it…so you found a way. Same as all of us with whatever we want.

Couldn’t help myself buying a LEGO set last week…Boba Fett’s Slave-1.

I really want an Axial Racing SCX10 Jeep JL or XJ. About twice a year I go on a YouTube binge on RC stuff, get so close to buying it, but never do. $700 is a lot of coin for it though

If I was completely irresponsible with money I'd buy an Axial SCX6.

Use to race 1/32 scale slot cars in the 70s/80s. It's definitely not the 6v Eldon stuff you had as a kid. You have to drive by feel + sound and look where your car is going to be. The high end hand built cars are to fast for your eyes to keep up with (scale speed works out to 600ish MPH).

I had a Kyosho Optima as an early teen. Been sitting for so many years I put it on kijiji 3yrs ago for around $150 and it was gone in minutes. It was in really nice condition but I figured it was 30yrs old and not worth much. I underestimated the value it would appear.

Went up to John's Photo and Hobby a few years ago and these were pushing the trains out of the way. I think the son was really into them.

They were holding races in a parking lot nearby.

Down the rabbit hole I go….dammit.
Start with something really slow for the kids. Wife bought kids some modern crappy ones and they prefer the slow one for now. The fast one exceeds their ability by a mile. With the slow one, they have a chance to drive it where they want. Once they master the slow one, I'm sure they will like the fast one but for now it sits unused.

That’s what I’m thinking. Slow one with about a 20-50m range so he can play with it at the cottage.

Maybe buy 2 so I can race it with him.

We use to skip school just to go check out RC cars here.

Eventually 15 year old me got a job and I had:
Hornet
Thundershot
Black Foot (put the techni Gold motor in and it flew), literally, broke it daily :)

Costco had little drones for $20 at one point so we picked up a handful of them. Obviously not capable of dealing with wind but I figured the kid may be interested (and maybe race them). No bueno so far. Drones are fine, kids dont care about them.

If you end up with oodles of $$$ to spend then go to the aircraft side of things. But if you don't crash, your expenses will be lower. Ask me how I know.

Hes not that far from the rc boat pond. I would think there should be lower maintenance/repair costs for boats. Powerboats run in etobicoke iirc and sailboats are closer to port credit (doubt kid would like sailboats at this point).
