6'6" tall rider looking for 1st bike

I agree with Griffin. The upright position sends every bump shivering right up my backbone into my spine. I prefer the forward position of sport (and sport touring) bikes.

Maybe it's because I raced bicycles for so many years before getting a motorcycle. I spent my youth and early adult life bent over handlebars. Griffin, did you ride/race/train before you got a motorcycle too?

Try the Aprilia Shiver, it's a taller bike and great all round, in terms of ergos it's a bit more upright with a bit of a forward slant, very comfortable. I'm 6' and I couldn't get both feet flat on the ground.
 
I would like to get a sport bike I use to race autocross befor college and would like the sporty fun back in corners. I use to mountain bike alot so being bent forward does not bother me its more the leg position. Are kits made for all bikes to relocate pegs/tranny/break controls?

Never really thought about it but, I've ridden road bicycles with bull horn bars since I was 12. Been riding sport bikes since I was 17. I ride my bicycle (with aero bars and bull horns) for 40 - 50 kms (about 60 - 80 minutes) with only minor ache in my back. I can ride my S1000RR for 12 hours comfortably.

Mind you, I can only sit in a La-Z-Boy for 20 minutes before I get restless. I can sit at the kitchen table all day long. I presume there's some correlation.

Having my feet stretched out in front of me with all my weight resting on my arse is about the most uncomfortable position there is for me.

If you're a tall guy on a sport bike, you're more likely to want to move the pegs more rearward. And yes, rear sets are available.

Same. I`m just under 6` and put on aftermarket sport bars onto the 400r and I really enjoy it. Back hurts after long rides but they always say the first place to hurt is your weakest!

This is not a suggestion on which bike to buy, its up to you but I know what you are saying. I own an r1, im 6'3 and i find it as comfortable as anything. I have ridden r6's and ached in 10 minutes. Try out different bikes, go to demo days , you will find your fit.

hey man, not sure if you got a bike yet,
first thing, any bike you get you'll make it look small thats just the reality for tall people like us im six five.
depending on your stlye of bike you're into, the suzuki hayabusa or the zx-14 would be the best fit.
im currently riding a busa and it is and was my first bike.
secondly, insurance will bend you over no matter what bike you get....

So, it must be painful for you to sit on a toilet and take a long dump?! j/k! Sitting on something like a H-D Softail Deluxe of even a Road King with floorboards feels like the same positioning as sitting on a toilet. (or a slightly lower chair).

I perrsonally find sitting on my porcelain throne quiet comfotable. I can sit for hours or until my legs fall asleep


OP, maybe go with something like a DRZ400SM. Beginner friendly, insurance friendly but sill has balls to blast around our city, take corners and likely outhandle a lot of SS guys in the city streets. They are wicked and great for a tall guy.
 
I'm 6'3" and my first bike was an '01 Honda CBR 600 F4i.

I found it to be very comfortable, forgiving enough for your first bike, yet with enough grunt to keep boredom away.

Honda stopped making the F4i in '06, but they are generally quite reliable and I had no problems with mine before moving up to the RR.

Pretty sure you can still go round corners well on a VStrom plus if you mountain biked then there's things you can carry across a bit too. With the crappy road surfaces we have I'm thinking something like a VStrom makes more and more sense.

Yeah, I find it pretty comfy until my legs go to sleep. Butt, I don't rest my back against the tank and extend my feet out in front. I lean forward with my feet close to the bowl.

Btw, I think the OP has moved on. Hasn't posted in 6 weeks. Maybe moved on to monster trucks?
