If someone can solve this then I will agree the answer is 288.
Come on guys didn't you learn in public school how to check your answers lol.

48÷2(x+3)=288 therefore x should equal 9

Because this one works:

48÷2(x+3)=2 therefore x should equal 9

But really this is just a glass half full or empty question, the question it slef is written incorrectly.

The question should really be written as 48/2(9+3) As we stopped using the division sign after grade school. So the common answer here is 288 XD

The cbr is good but your weather widget is in farenheit and your watching movies with vlc so i don't know what to make of you.

The whole thing about this question is math majors and engineers usually get 2 while other people get 288.
No offense to anyone but 2*(9+3) is different then 2(9+3) as the 2(9+3) is a parentheses in which it takes prioity over multiplication and division due to you have to simplify it before you can move to the next step.

Also no one has proved me wrong in solving the question by entering an "x" in as a variable?????

The answer is too gross  (but yeah, poorly written)

huh?

2*(9+3) = 24
2(9+3) = 24

Come again?

I meant in the equation...

2*(9+3) the 2 has no connection with the (9+3)
2(9+3) but here the 2 is part of the whole parentheses which has to be simplified before solving the rest of the equation.

I have a MS degree in math. I'm gonna cry myself to sleep tonight... :(

[h=2]48÷2(9+3)
= 48÷2x(9+3)[/h]= 48÷2x 12
=24x12
=288 (according to BEDMAS, PEDMAS, or BODMAS)

Don't lose any sleep over it, El Zilcho.... just be thankful it wasn't an equation in n-dimensional space!

Going through the character map to look for the "divide by" symbol and took me long enough to lose interest in this thread....

When you put the mutiplication sign behind the 2 you change the equation. I can change it too 48÷[2(9+3)]

Like said before if someone can prove this 48÷2(x+3)=288 and have x = 9.
Then you can prove me wrong!
Because I can solve it like this 48÷2(x+3)=2 and have x = 9 ????

But either way the only time this equation would be written like this is if a passenger on the short bus was giving you a test.
