Gosh, that's awfully close to your butt, your hand can reach that! Looks like it moves back and fourth too.

....not that I know anything at all about that kit of course. Evading the 407 is wrong!

FYI its back to calculated toll. Had a few on my bill this month, AND its now not your average. Its the average of ALL the light vehicles that take the 407.

From their new FAQ:

"For light vehicles without a transponder, the toll is calculated using a percentage of the average trip length (kilometres) taken in the same month during the applicable toll time period by all light video customers."

Apparently it doesn't matter that the bike is linked to an account with a transponder for the calculated tolls. They will still treat the calculated toll as if you didn't have a transponder. And just a heads up 2 times in 3 months the flag on my bike has been removed so it was being charged video tolls again.

This is ********! I have everything stock on my bike and their system misses half of my in/out. I only get on the 407 for a short distance usually (410 to 427), I will not start paying the average of all light video customers.

Does anyone know at what angle the picture is taken? I think I read somewhere it is at a 23 degrees angle.... just asking

Screw em. Now, somehow, they'll miss my plate going on AND leaving.

I screw the 407 by NEVER using it.

^^^ What he said. I never take the 407. My personal theory is if it was never used, they wouldn't be able to collect money from it and it would end up reverting to the province as a bad investment. Good luck with that though, too many sheep willing to pay for something we have already paid for.

Besides there are far better routes for me to take that bypass the GTA altogether, like start by heading WEST from Hamilton and don't stop until Bowmanville.... Takes a few months but I don't have to pay the ETR bill either! ;)

So in layman a terms. If you travel 20km one way trip everyday, then one day you choose to get off 10km earlier to pick up food and they don't catch your plate they will bill you for the average which is 20km?

How the **** is that legal?

It's not, if you contest, they need to provide a picture of your plate, or default to the lowest charge.
I've found so many mistakes on my ETR charges, I'm convinced this is the business plan of the company, relying on people who don't check.

This is the legacy of Mike Harris, who sold off the largest tract of Ontario owned land out from under tax payers for cheap. His buddies got very rich off that deal, and the people who the land was stolen from get it up the *ss forever, while the money leaves Ontario for France.

I have to laugh when Ontarians get smug and say Quebec and Mexico have a problem with massive government corruption. Just look at our ETR and insurance rates.

The ETR rates are ridiculous as well. A trip from Markham to Mississauga is $12 leading to $480 per month if taken during rush hour times. If the point of this highway was to relive congestion, it sure as hell isn't going to happen at those rates.

I wonder if there's anything we can do to change this.

I think most of us will be dead unless our brains are preserved...or something.

That's why you take what you can now, can't take it with you when you're gone.

Nope. It's a private company. It's a consortium of companies, one of which is SNC Lavalin, which is under investigation in many places for political corruption (but curiously, not in Ontario).

If the 407 was still in the hands of the taxpayers, we could have a say. But that's how privatization works. the right-wing uses words like "free market" and "competition", but just look at our insurance rates and cell phone rates. Government supported monopolies and price fixing.

Get off your political soapbox. All politicians are terrible; it's not unique to one party nor worse in any one. Gas plant anyone?

It's this attitude that leads to people not voting, and why we have a high-school dropout moron crack smoker as a Mayor.
It's funny how people blame the government for the gas plant fiasco, but not the wealthy ********** in Oakville who want electricity for their 10,000 sqft mansions, but only if the plant is in YOUR backyard of the GTA.

I've long been of the opinion that we could expropriate the 407 and give them back their money. Why not? The province has that power as far as I know.

I always vote in every election and always have. The real problem is not the people who don't vote but the ones who do who want to vote "for the winner". If the media tells them the rhino party is the winner of the upcoming election they vote rhino because they want to vote for the winner. Control the media and you will control the government.

Not voting? Ha. You should always vote.
You pick the party which best respresents the interests of you and your family. I'm not saying they're all the same but just that they're all terrible; just some less terrible than others.

I never used the 407 before, and probably never will, I will just filter through traffic. Especially on the highway 7 and yonge-leslie stretch, i sometimes use the bike lanes :D
