32 Trailers at once though that would raise some suspicion even in busy industrial areas. I'm still betting on some sort of insurance fraud.

Police recover a dozen stolen trailers, 20 still missing
Waterloo regional police have recovered 12 of the 32 stolen semi-trailers stolen from a business earlier this month.
Ok now it makes more sense they were new at the mfg.

There are videos of heists so huge the perps couldn’t carry away all the cash. Maybe the trailer heist went better than expected and they just kept going like a pig out.
Why bother with security. Who’s going to steal trailers. Oh crap.
It could be the actions of a criminal mastermind or a bunch of drunk truckers

Based on the charges, it sounds like they were selling them.
I wouldn't have guessed that the thieves would be selling them locally because it seemed obvious that was the dumbest thing you could do
