21 years old - Ninja 250 - Insurance help please!

I'd suggest looking at previous posts with everyones opinions and rates with their insurance companies.
I'm surprised statefarm had turned you down. I have looked at other peoples posts and looks like TD wouldnt touch you with anything less then a year experience. Im with statefarm myself. Maybe they took me with my GSX-R 600 because im over 25? Because last year was my first year of riding and i was about 100 A month. And they even knocked me to 29 a month for the months im not riding.

Again, i suggest just poking around these threads and start calling away!
good luck

Even the Mantha rate is fantastic for your age. What class license do you have? I'm 22 with an M1 (and even if I adjust the quote to M2 with the course in March...it's the same) the best quote is John Duffy and it's almost 2900 for my '83 GS400E.

Geez i need your money! 2900 is a good rate ;)

Actually, yeah, it was. I went over to John Duffy again to run another online quote for kicks (to compare it to myself on a 250) and all of a sudden they don't list biked pre-1998! I sure hope I don't get screwed...it seems more and more companies are dropping insurance on bikes older than 25 years.

Hi guys,

As the title says I'm 21 with a 2012 Ninja 250 and I'm looking for insurance. Just finished calling a bunch of places, not sure if I should list them, but the cheapest was Mantha - $1994 basic for the year. A couple weeks ago I was told by a State Farm agent that it would be $1200-1500. Now apparently I'm not eligible for coverage  Does anyone recommend any companies or brokers? Input is appreciated.

Did they give u a reason why you're not eligible for coverage? ie not having your full G license for more than 5 years?

I believe its 6 years now...so he has to wait until 22 if he got his license right at 16.

I just signed a policy with StateFarm 2 weeks ago starting in Feb. I'm 21 with my G for 5 years.

Thanks for the input. I have had my M2 for a month and my G for 2 years. There are still some other companies I'm going to contact and try to find a better deal. From what I've being seeing on other threads regarding insurance, $1994 seems pretty good.

G for 2 years or G1/G2/G 2 years combined? SF looks at the combined time licensed with G1/G2/G. With so little experience with your M, you may be limited on who will insure you if its just for a bike (no car, home, etc).

If you go to college or university, try TD Molloche Monnex. People have gotten really good rates with them since its considered group insurance.

Unfortunately they aren't associated with all colleges. I graduated from Mohawk and I have no such luck :(

I called Mantha, and ended up with a quote of 4200(!!!) that would drop to 2100 after 1 year. Maybe the 250cc makes a big difference; I always thought it was 401cc that was the big cutoff.

If you took a M2 course. Let your insurance know. I saved about 15-20% off my insurance in my first year.

I just got off the phone with a State Farm agent. I was quoted 135/month for fire and theft, which is a good deal...then I told her I got my G1 in late 2008...****. Guess I'll have to wait until next year to go with State Farm.

Well you know what, looks like they have you by the balls for the first year. Just eat it knowing that come the following year its cut in half. Also when talking to these companies, ask them, when you store your bike for the winter if they will give you a storage rate.
StateFarm did that for me. 29 bucks. So that large figure may be cut way down if they do!
Just a small piece of advice that will save alot big guy

your quotes are gonna be high until you have at least 5 years on your G. Most insurance companies base their quotes on your G license not your M license. I say most companies because when I had my 250 I went with TD and they gave me a good rate, I paid $1050 a year and that was with just my M1, I think they look at your G status and your M status, but definitely let them know if you are or have taken the course. Hopes this helps, and good luck!

How old were you? At 22 most places are giving me ~4200/year.

This is exactly what I'm doing. I managed to get a more reasonable rate than TD/Jevco etc., but I'm still looking forward to one day having that sweet under-1000 rate.
