2025 - Ride to West Coast

I've traversed south of Chicago on I80 too many times to count -- no big deal. Traffic moves at a good clip unless there is construction or you're in the city's 7-9 or 3:30-6 rush hours. Even then, it's not like crossing Toronto!

There are a couple of toll booths, but they are drive-thru -- you don't need to stop. Tolls are cheap, <$2 of you stick to I 80.

Well that’s really good to know because I was going head about 30km south of the Chicago and take some rather long detours to avoid it. I can time it to pass through the city around 2pm then.

Toll fares don’t bug me either:)

Thanks!

Just got back from Chicago a couple days ago. On the way there Friday, we arrived at 7pm and there was no heavy traffic on the 294 toll road going NW. When we left on Saturday at 6pm, Google maps only showed a 15 minute difference between taking the 294 vs 290, and we were in heavy, but moving, traffic on the east/west stretch of the 290. So take the 294. There are no booths, so I'm assuming there were cameras, even though I didn't see any bright lights or flashing.
