2023 Ural Gear Up

Things i have learned so far.

#1 I don't know anything about this.
#2 A lazy shift will make embarrassing noises.
#3 I don't have to put my foot down.
#4 It's fun to lock up the front at a quick stop and slide it in a bit.
#5 There is no 5th gear.
#6 My toe won't go under for upshifts. It's a heel toe thing.
#7 I don't have to put my foot down.
#8 Right turns scare the poop out of me.Even with 120lb of weight in the sidecar.
#9 Smile and wave is a very neat thing now.
#10 I still don't have to put my foot down.Sigh.

For some reason I thought Urals had some simple form of ABS. Also the MSRP is... higher, than I remember

I rode snowbikes for a day. The track is wide enough that it'll stay upright without putting a foot down. If you do put a foot down, it'll sink in the snow and you might find yourself with a snowbike on top of you.

I still put my foot down almost every single time.

Muscle memory is a beach to re-program.

Try hopping on an old Triumph with right side shift, left side brake.

I'm not going to lie, switching from bmw to aprilia, the poor starter button got pressed quite often when making a right turn. I like using the bmw signal controls but having the right blinker where almost every other bike in the world has the starter button is not a great design.

I know someone who has a vintage bike collection, every bike has a different way of shifting and braking, one has a suicide shifter, another has reverse shift, etc.

My buddy let me ride his reverse shift bike, I was hopping that rear wheel on every upshift (by accidentally downshifting) in every gear. Just couldn't rewire my brain around GP-shift. Thank god it was only a 250cc 4-stroke.

On some of the new Ducati models, the blinker-cancel button doubles as the "OK" button for the menu system. If you are displaying the tripmeter on the main screen, hitting the blinker-cancel button brings up the, "Reset tripmeter?" prompt. Hitting the binker-cancel button again confirms it.

I have a habit of hitting my blinker-cancel button every 30 seconds when I ride, on all my bikes. It's my safety-net to make sure I don't accidentally leave my turn signals on.

But now, I accidentally reset my tripmeter on the Duc all the time. :(

I thought about buying a 928 at one point. 1st was towards driver and back, second was forward. Wtf. That was part of the reason I decided not to. Driving two standard cars with different shift patterns is asking for an expensive mistake.

Nice. If I were in a position to pick up a 928, I'd do it, regardless of shift pattern.

Love that car! S4, naturally!

It was not an s4. Original paint in great shape for $10k in ~2007. I bought the mini instead (and blew it up shortly after).

Dog leg 5 speeds were used many European sports cars till 6 speeds became common, and virtually all race cars used dog leg shift patterns.

1st was for starts only, reduced shift speeds between 2-3.

Same reasons all 3 speeds are dogleg.

Operated German printing presses most of my life. They have the same quirky engineering as the cars and bikes.

This does cause me irritation on the 950S.
