2023 Toyota GR Corolla Launches March 31

Supposedly it is only gonna be around $40k CAD :eek::eek:

Congrats to those who can buy this :]
If rumours are true (~300 hp 1.5L three cylinder with awd) it would be fun but it sounds like they aren't leaving that much room for aftermarket power and I would be shocked if it didn't require premium only. There is only so much boost and timing you can pull when drinking 87 and I suspect it would become a dog.

Price seems low for what it is (~15% below golf R). I am sure the dealers will go with market adjustments for a while.

yes sir. And we won't be marking them up.....but yes I assume some dealers may try to our detriment.
How is that to your detriment? Sure it costs you some short-term profits but market the hell out of that fact and it will come back in goodwill tenfold.

I thought you can’t mark up new cars above msrp?
Even if something similar existed it is easy to play the game. Lean hard on extended warranties, paint protection, rust prevention, prepaid maintenance etc. If someone refused to buy all the high margin bits, sell to the next person in line. They aren't going to have trouble moving all of these. As long as sales doesnt say or write something stupid, they can get more than msrp.

It isn't that....any dealer can do that anytime.....some dealers near me are selling the cars as "used". The dealership buys the car at cost (list price of 55k for a Highlander) and marks it up 10k and call it used. Once the car is sold to the dealership the manufacturer stops caring.

I meant to the detriment of the buying public.....to the detriment of the opinion of salespeople in general. You have no idea how often people are scared that I will reach into their pocket and take their wallet when all I want to do is sell them the car they WANT to buy!

The GR Yaris has gotten rave reviews since it came out overseas and I expect the GR Corolla will get the same. If I was 30 years younger and had the coin, I'd be looking at it for sure.

You can't...but the dealer can add all the other adders at markup (nitrogen, etching, paint protection, rust protection, etc) before the client even walks in the door.

'Sorry, these have been added already. Don't want to pay? No problem....NEXT!'

I contacted the sales manager I know and sounds like demand is through the roof. They won't have a problem selling this with Mark up.

Decisions decisions 🙄
Those are some good choices when looking for a house lol....flip cars every year!

You have forfeit any sympathy from me on house buying complaints. 😂

Sure..but I mean serious markups. Like C8 vettes going for $109,000 on the website going for $125k+ before taxes

Have you seen how much some of the ridiculous charges are? $1000 for a blinking led light to prevent rust. $250 for nitrogen. $499 for theft id (ie stickers on the doors). 10%+ of msrp for extended warranty. 10%+ of msrp for paint and fabric protection. Easy to get to five figures without a line item market adjustment.

If I wasn’t teaching tonight I’d call one of these and ask why the sale price is so high, just for kicks. Maybe tomorrow…

@GreyGhost beat me to it. It's very easy to add 14k worth of 'adders' onto a car like that.

Locknuts - typically $50 sell for $150 (damn shortage)
Tint - $1000
WeatherTech Mats - $250-300 (anyone have a discount available I want some for the Volt)

It's so easy to mark this crap up it's ridiculous. Manufacturer won't let them sell over MSRP...but technically dealer isn't selling over MSRP. These are just 'value added packages' to create better value for the buyer.

Legal? Yes. 100%
Ethical? Fine line, as it's all within the law

I'm sure others can comment better than me. I sold cars for a while....we did it also, just not to this level. It was when business managers started entering the game, and taking the sell of accessories / frills away from the salesman.

We got the signature on the dotted line...dealt with warranties, adders, licensing, details etc.

Near the end of my term we got the signature and credit card, and then introduced the client to the business manager. And they took the responsibility for the licensing, adders, warranties, etc.
