2023 MotoGP Discussion (No Links - Contains Spoilers!)

Is anyone thinking the same as me. I wondering if Marc is done. He had so many crashes this weekend. His health let alone his performance can't continue like this. Everytime hes on track it seems it's a matter of when, not if he's going to crash. Not sure any other team would really want to take on that risk for the payout he will demand. At this rate hes going through 6 bike rebuilds a weekend. Heck they had to borrow parts from Mir's bike lol

Good to see Martin have a really successfull weekend. Love seeing a challenge for the Championship. As much as I want Pecco to win again. For the intrest of the sport , I would rather see a few riders having a chance to win. Vs F1 where every race has become so predictable.

Interesting times for MotoGP that seems to be repeating history. Ducati for many years was the most powerful bike but unrideable for all but a few and even they struggled for a win. I think when Ducati made a seat position mod for Lorenzo and it changed their outcomes, it must have hit them to focus their design and construction to focus on the rider and not the engine. Hence their current success and domination. Honda and Yamaha need to have the same light bulb moment now if there's any hope of becoming competitive again.

I think Martin is a championship contender. In some respects, I think Martin is a better rider than Bagnaia - more raw ability? Can't put my finger on it. He had a gloves off battle with Bagnaia and won.

Bagnaia was diplomatic about it, but I have to believe on some level, he feels threatened by Martin right now.

I think he's done at Honda, and I would not be surprised at all if he breaks his contract to jump to some other manufacturer. He's obviously so frustrated with the bike. That shot of him leaning on the guardrail looking over the stormwater basin was the first time he's ever looked human to me.

I don't claim to know the whole story, but in watching MotoGP it has often been said that Honda designed their bike over the years to meet Marc's needs. Super stiff, short wheelbase, tall centre of gravity - great for his stop-and-go style. To his specifications and to the detriment of other Honda riders. That development strategy has backfired as they now have a bike that is considered unrideable by its own top riders. Repsol Honda is last in the team's championship, 11 out of 11. Zero points at the Sachsenring. It's a failure of epic proportions...

Marc often said during Valentino's last years that he could not imagine following in Valentino's footsteps and remaining in MotoGP despite not being able to fight for the podium... Well...

I can’t see them building a bike around one person’s feedback, Honda is notorious for telling riders that their engineers know better whether it’s MotoGP, AMA Supercross or MXGP. They have lost many a rider over their hard line approach when it comes to the performance of their products. But, Marc is/was a very special athlete so maybe?

It's aggression. Bagnaia's a smart rider, knows when to push but his killer instinct isn't as sharply honed as Martin - he has the same kind of win-it-or-bin-it attitude that MM93 has.

I had always seen Martin as a sprint specialist - when tire preservation and strategy doesn't matter as much, he's king of the fast lap. It's a wonder he's able to keep that same level of performance in full feature-length races lately. Is it maturity, or just a testament to the Duc's inherent ability to manage the tires?🤷‍♂️

It will be interesting to see where they go from here...

Hopefully Honda doesnt follow Suzuki's lead and leave MotoGP. It's become a costly year for them. No riders left. Bunch of bikes that had to be rebuilt. Are they last place in the manufacturers standings?
This could be a chain reaction if Honda and then Yamaha both start to reconsider the investment vs reward for staying in MotoGP now.

This is it. I also think that Martin has more natural(?) talent.

To your point about being a sprint specialist, I think Bagnaia could accept that, but now that Martin has won a race, he's now proving that he can be just as effective at a race distance which is what I would think would start to be a worm in Bagnaia's head.

It seemed only a matter of time for J Martin to win considering his blistering qualifying times. From the bits of videos I've seen he has got a great attitude.

Miller has got the KTM working pretty good, I wouldn't be surprised to see some more podiums this year.
And Vinales is busy whining about the Aprilia. No surprise.

Rather funny seeing Iker lose his sh!t when his bike failed as if he was fighting for a podium spot. Post race saying he was almost fighting for a top ten finish...............well yeah because half the field ahead of you crashed.
Was hoping Miller would have done better.

So many injuries, all you need to do is finish the race to get points these days. It's like participation trophy points for everyone.

Not surpring but a disproportionate amount of the injuries are coming from non-ducati riders. they're all trying to out-talent the gaps in the machines.
