What a joke. 3 grandstands... I worked the safety car for 10 + years for that race, they had grandstands everywhere, corporate boxes and so on....now, we'll holey ****....seating for what 1500...no wonder showing up is not worth it.

I've never seen an incredible race series as needlessly destroyed as the split killed CART for Tony George's greed and lazy American isolationism. Once upon a time, the series was on the edge of F1 for talent and technology. Then IRL came along, tried to NASCARify the sport, and it became a shadow of its former glory. I know I stopped paying attention when CART went under, so I may have missed some good years in between...

But man, when it was good, it was soooo good. I loved the mix of ovals, street courses and tracks. Went to the Molson Indy for years as a kid, and loved every minute of it. I used to have a box of photos I took with a disposable camera of some very tiny Players race cars. Not sure where they are...

When Andretti got involved they bumped out B.A.R.C . they supplied all of the volunteers for the event, safety car, pass control and so on....went from about 500 volunteers to maybe 30. We used to have a blast down there....Molson's even gave us a chit for a case of beer. They fed us, watered us and handed out swag to everyone and gave us handfulls of free silver grandstand tickets for our families and we had the BEST seats in the house, we were 12" from the track. Met tons of great people, the scenery was fantastic if u know what I mean... when BARC got run out I stopped going, the fun was gone, atmosphere sucked..to be blunt they %#@€%d it up...shame, used to be a great place to spend the weekend. Early, Every morning b4 the track went hot I did a quick lap on my 750..lol...then we would strap in to the safety car tail gate and do a lap or 2...bout 100mph down the back straight with our legs dangling off the back...great memories. 😛

Back in the 90’s we had Greg Moore, Goodyear,Tracy and Jacques, the series was awesome. Around the time of the split I lost interest and now just a casual fan.
All great drivers, ran into Greg in the padok, asked if I could get a picture of him with my son..he turned around and said " I can't I have to go meet up with my dad" and he left. An hr later he was back, swarmed with people around him, he picked us out of the large crowd , he walked through everyone , right over to us and apologized for leaving earlier and talked to us for a couple of minutes and did the photo....I'll never forget that...what a class act. Michael Andretti on the other hand was the biggest dick I ever met.

TV is a better viewing experience , but there is nothing like sitting watching the screaming engines and the energy in the crowd, different game.

Due to the position i held at the indy i had great opportunity to Meet and chat with alot of them, Goodyear was another great one....after the fact he was actually my instructor at mosport, super nice guy. I remember going down the back straight at mosport right up his ass....then the radio lit up... " car 4...a little more room behind please" ...meanwhile I'm yelling ..get the **** out of my way ( to my self of coarse ). Lol
Emo was another nice guy, I was sitting behind his trailer eating in peace and quiet, he came over and said " that looks good" so I offered him half and he sat and shot the s%$# for a while.
Loads of good times at the races. I actually miss it alot.

That kid had huge talent, and may have ended up in F1. Such a sad loss at a young age.

I was watching the race when Greg M crashed , I dont want to see anything like that in Motorsport again if possible .

Yeah, I was watching it. The dust hadn't settled and I said to myself "He's dead. You don't live through something like that." Same thing while watching San Marino.

I was a big CART/Champcar fan from early 90s to probably about 2003? The race in Toronto is a metaphor of how that entire sport is doing - all just a sad shadow of its former self.

For the Toronto race specifically, I never really understood the efforts Molson put to promote the race until they stopped doing it.
