I thought I'd start investigating the purchase, it seems like good value based on the MSRP.
The dealer doesn't expect to see any until the end of the year or early 2022, and they've only ordered one for inventory ?
Oh yeah, they want $3K up front just to get on the wait list, wtf ???
I'm not buying sight unseen and I'm sure not giving them a bag full of cash to wait indefinitely.
Welcome to the new way of doing business in the auto industry...

If anybody is actually paying $3K to get on a wait list for it, then it's probably no longer good value for anyone that gets one out the door

Have seen a few dealerships basically running skeleton stock on their lots. I can’t believe how bad inventory is.

I like the Maverick. But I’m a long way from buying another car within a year…and also will never buy a new car again.

Waiting for those Mach-Es to come off leases.

I'd say its even worse now. Bidding wars on new cars? no thanks.

some dealer lots are barren
That's the usa. We have omvic here (ontario). Anyone paying over msrp gets no mercy.

The empty mopar lot around the corner looks eerie.

good to know, but the dealers ain't stupid. new car prices are up 8% and I'd rather slit my wrists than pay full MSRP which apparently lots of people are doing.

Have fun with all that folks! I'll add another coat of wax to my MDX and enjoy it for another year.

p.s. check out the Ford parkdale lot, the truck and van division is taking a shellacking, they replaced the pick ups with giant Commercial vehicles for sale to fill the space. LOL

Lots of people in the states are selling their used vehicles to Carvana for >$5K more then they bought them for two to five years ago. Most normal people don't have a time in their life where a vehicle is an appreciating asset. They are either downgrading to less desirable cars to gain cash or dumping extra vehicles as one has been mostly parked through covid.

I purchased new a year ago and actually got a great deal. Maybe things have changed 🤷‍♂️.

There is a Canadian version of carvana, the name escapes me at the moment but a colleague used them recently and had a very good experience

I thought long and hard about this but I didn't feel like it was a good proposition. Towing capacity on the hybrid was not enough but with the upgraded motor why not go up to the Ford Ranger ....... And then Ford ??? Reliability ????

With the Hyundai Santa Cruz as its competitor and being released now, doubtful that the maverick will have much support requiring $3k deposit for something you can't see in person yet.

That being said, with these smaller truck versions being newer to the market, no one knows yet what recalls await the consumers. As mentioned at the last burger meet up, never a good idea to buy the first version of any vehicle... You never know what issues are in store .. guinea pig for the manufacturers...imo.

In some jurisdictions a dealer can't sell a new vehicle above MSRP. They do some paperwork fiddling to turn them into used and there are no limits.

They also add a crap ton of dealership adders (nitrogen, tint, rust proofing, VIN etching, etc) to a car to bring up the sale price while clearly within the OMVIC rules.

If OMVIC was truly consumer protection as they pretend to be, most of that crap would explicitly require consumer opt-in (eg. can't be installed on car until after contract is signed requesting it). Try to get a dealership to dump these pure profit and completely useless charges is almost impossible (we can't take the charge off as it's already been done. wtf, has anyone ever been happy to have any of that crap?).

this is what i'm seeing lots of. Price is more for it used then it was new in 18

Yup…still waiting for OMVIC to update my case of the Volt. Radio silence.

Isn't this truck suppose to have a black rear bumper?

It's funny but you have the power in your hand. All you have to do is say the word OMVIC when dealing with these charges. But if you walk into a dealership that has already rustproofed a vehicle before the sale.....just walk back out. Make sure you see pricing online first and they have to honour that....pretty simple. If they introduce anything into the deal afterwards it is going to be a problem. IF they advertise the unit with those features....then you don't walk through the door.
