2021 RSV4 and Tuono 1100

I wasnt able to find out where the H2 got its engine from, but I just assume its from the superbike

Speed triple originally was from an older daytona from what I have read

Honda has just given up on making fun bikes at this point

I know I'm getting deep into silly semantics territory here, but I'm not sure sharing a base engine design history is enough to call anything a 'sportbike with upright handlebars', especially when that history goes back almost 20 years in the case of the Triumph.

There's nothing from the current model that would bolt into the 955i version, with both motor and frame being updated multiple times since then. By that logic, the Super Duke is in the same box because the 1290 LC8 evolved elements from the RC8 motor, and both are 75 degree twins. The Multistrada and the V-Rod both have motors evolved from sportbike motors, too.

And the Z H2, while having a motor evolved from one in a bike that Kawasaki tried to market as a sportbike, is clearly not one. It and the Ninja H2 (which is, I'm assuming, where you're drawing the sportbike parallel) both have claimed curb weights over 525 lbs, which definitely eliminates them from true sportbike territory in my own arbitrary classifications. Hyperbike, maybe...

I am likely picking up a Tuono this year. I don't think the 2021 has enough of a change to warrant buying it over the 2020 with (hopefully) a discount.
There will be deep discounts. Personally, I'd wait for an actual road test of the new Tuono, though. Just in case there's more than spec sheet racing would suggest.

It depends on whether you want the RR or Factory for deals. Quebec shops are still advertising new 2019 Tuono RR's for as little as $13.5k on Auto Trader, which I'm assuming is pretty close to cost. Factory models are harder to get cheap as they sell better.

trader.ca?

edit: lord, i read your reply too fast.

hmmm, not sure i agree. i assume you`re referencing the beast?

don't think MT10 revision 1 can hang with the big boys at the moment as an overall package, needs an update.
Doesn't help that an MT10 is more expensive than a Tuono RR in Canada. That doesn't make any sense to me, even the dealer was telling me that the Tuono is a much better bike, and they sell both!

is it though? The manufac website puts them neck in neck, maybe they are selling fewer tuonos so you can find more leftover models?

the base? i think they are close.

naked versions of top tier superbikes, make sense to me. or do you think they should raise the price on the tuono? ?

No I think you should be able to get an MT10 for cheaper, they get them for dirt cheap in the states.

This segment has quite the selection, can't really go wrong with any and it's good to see all the variety

@Priller

I like the ZH2, i'd buy one over the Duc. Party starting above 8 grand is no fun imo.

MV is in the same boat it seems, though not surprising given the i4

i don't even consider that thing in the running, the price tag is beyond silly.

SDR doesn't disappoint.

Tuono as expected.
Pergusa is such a weird track to go to with supernakeds, as it's basic giant oval with some chicanes. Otherwise, great comparo and nice to see the MV in there, if only for the fun of it.

I prefer the MCN shootout, though, because I like Neevesy and because he doesn't chicken out on ranking them:

Oh, and he gets the ranking right... ;)

(For me, anyways!)

Missed this. I'd take the Z H2 over anything except the Aprilia and KTM. It'd be a fantastic sport tourer, and that mega motor sounds like a lot of fun. It's a bit porky, but that doesn't matter for anything up to 7/10ths, which is as quick as I'll go on a road I don't know well anyway, so fine for touring. Would be nice to have a flyscreen for a bit of protection, though

I like the one where he put up sticky notes all over the streetfighter review, kinda neat and very informative

I grew up reading British bike magazines, mostly because they gave actual opinions. They were a lot more expensive and harder to find than the US publications available at every news stand (Cycle World and Motorcyclist), but they gave much better content and were aimed younger, which appealed to younger me. (Thread on this coming shortly, actually...)

Because he worked for MCN, and because he was/is a fast as f**k racer, Michael Neeves always held a bit of a special status for me. I'm really glad he's one who has made the transition to video successfully, as not all of the writers have been able to do that...

I spent some time riding the 2020 Tuono that my buddy bought last year. It's a good bike and gives great feedback to the point where I could ride it quicker than some of my past SS liter bikes but whether it's my age or the bike I just didn't find it overly interesting. I felt the Monster 1200S that I rode had more character and was much harder to give back than the Ape.

is it because of power delivery smoothness? possibly more refined electronics on the tuono? so the monster feels more aggresive on the throttle?

None to all. I pushed the Tuono harder than the Monster but I could easily go faster on a track/fast road on the Tuono (it pulls harder, suspension valving is better suited for faster pace, ergos feel racier). The Monster on the other hand was just a joy to ride (it makes plenty of usable power, feels all-day comfy, sounds better imo, and I get off it and look back at it like I just enjoyed the experience compared to the Tuono where I just get off and know it was fun but not memorable/engaging). Does that make sense?
