I think we can say the 2021 riding season has started!

Post your day trip adventures here, bike shots, interesting places you have discovered or revisited, all good!

Today was a great day to get out and do a COVID essential run!

Here is how it went
apr 10 map.jpg

My starting destination was Fenelon Falls

Then over to Rosedale to check out the canal
rosedale trent-severn waterway.jpg

Over to Bobcaygeon by way of Sturgeon Point

I had enough time left to hit Kinmount and do HWY 45 and looped back to Beaverton, via HWY 169 then home!

Not too much bugs!

Post up your day trips taken in 2021 - routes and photos and more!

Decided to check out the northern Muskoka roads. It was a beautiful day out and I've never been on the 518 or Bunny Trail so early in the season before. Some of the roads were pretty sandy, but others were as clean as a mid-summer day.
Route: ended up being around 850km by the time we got back - left at 6:30am and got back home at 5pm.

Too busy riding to take a lot of pictures - this one is just at the southern end of the Bunny Trail with a DL650 and GSX-1000F

Rode out to Ajax a few weeks ago to pick up some hinges from AyA Kitchens.

Was such a nice day, I took the long way back via Port Perry, Caesarea and Mosport.

My favourite half day ride is leave the house at 6am from Dundas and Mavis, book it down to Fort Erie on the QEW and meander back toward NOTL along the Niagara River. Stop here or there for a coffee, or just enjoy the ride. Typically home by lunch so still lots of time to spend with the family.

Can't wait to do it soon as I get those new wheels on and find some time...hopefully within the next 2 weeks.

First day on the enduros. We may have been a bit too premature...

We spent the afternoon exploring some dirt roads a bit south of the city.

A nice view of the lake. Can't believe we're only 15 minutes away from the city!

Is that snow on the hill? And is that where we're headed? Answer: Yes. And yes...

A little break to take in the scenery

Things are getting a little spicy...

DSCN1991-X2.jpg

Nice elevation changes! We came from up there

DSCN1994-X2.jpg

Still a lot of snow on the ground up here

DSCN1993-X2.jpg

We scoped out just over the hill and the little narrow pathway of dirt disappears below an ocean of snow

That's where we bailed and turned around. We were a bit ambitious for this early in the season.

Although it's 18C in the valley, the minute you start climbing the mountains, the temps fall to low single digits and the snow has barely begun to melt there.

A couple more weeks and it'll be perfect up here!

Proof that I was there

Looks like a nice run. Can you post the entire route? I'll load it up on google maps and save it for one of the weekends!
The track was saved in my garmin GPS, but Basecamp is a piece of chit and keeps crashing everytime I try to convert the track to a route to export.

Here is what I can do:

Hopefully this helps

It does, just created a free account on Rever and saved this for the future. Thanks :)

I'll add it to google maps when I plan on doing this route.
Nice,
FYI the part between HWY 35 and 49 is gravel. You may want to bypass that part incase that is not your thing.

@jdmsteR I agree...there's another thread on here "Elephant in the Covid Room" with some interesting stuff about this:

Douggie press conference. I think I got most of it. It will be interesting to see the official document.

Effective immediately
  1. Extend stay at home for two more weeks (total of six weeks)
  2. No outdoor gathering with people outside your family
  3. Non-essential construction closing (GG-what the hell is that? Based on previous definitions of essential that does nothing)
  4. No outdoor play (golf/tennis/basketball)
  5. Church limited
  6. Store capacity reduced
  7. Checkpoints at provincial borders
  8. Want JT to tighten international borders.
  9. Police and by-law officers have been granted emergency authority for next six weeks
  10. Vaccine supply to hotspots increasing 25% (redirected from other areas of province)
  11. Want JT to get them more vaccines now
  12. Adding 700-1000 new hospital beds (GG-didn't say ICU or regular)
CE

Effective saturday at 00:01
  1. No outdoor gathering with people outside your family
  2. Non-essential construction closing (GG-what the hell is that? Based on previous definitions of essential that does nothing)
  3. Stores limited to 25% capacity
  4. All outdoor recreational facilities closed
Effective Monday at 00:01
  1. Weddings/funerals etc 10 people max whether indoors or outdoors.
  2. 13 public health regions targeted for vaccines
EDIT:
Solicitor General

Police can ask for any person outside their house for ID and why they are somewhere else. They can also pull over vehicles for a check.

McNaughton

  1. Non-essential construction shutting (malls, offices, hotels), Residential, LTC are specifically allowed to be open
  2. More and more people are being asked into the office. Will be inspecting law, accounting etc to make sure those inside are following safety protocols. (GG-seems like a contradiction and they are inspecting for masks)

Questions
What happens if a person tells the police to f off and not answer questions? SG - you can get a $750 ticket (GG-whoopdeee^*^&*(^do)

Where does medical help come from? CE: probably atlantic. We have built beds, we are ramping down surgeries to free up bodies, bringing students in pre-grad, bringing retired nurses back, several thousand international nurses respiratory therapists etc being brought it.

Do you regret not implementing effective measures earlier? DF - we have done a great job. We have had hotspots in lockdown for months (GG- gfy doug, your "lockdown" was like a bichon as a guard dog).

What happened to outdoor activity being safe? DF - go take a walk, playgrounds are packed and that is unacceptable. CE - go for a walk, go exercise, only your household, do not congregate, follow public health measures.

Amazon warehouse at full capacity? DF - three prong approach, blah blah blah, we handed out rapid tests. (GG-he's learning from JT, answer the question). Williams - restrictions in place for a long time, right time right way, some people have become complacent, lots of people doing the right thing (GG - also didn't answer the question).

I'm still tempted to go for a local ride just for the sake of mental health, but not if I'm going to be stopped and questioned by some power-tripping cops with the new rules in place

Just ride, these rules will only get stricter, and will be in place for a long long time. It's already been over a year, and I won't be surprised it goes on for 2 more. Neighbor knows a friend working in the Gov, they were told not to return to work till 2023, keep wfh till then. So they have it all planned. They keep saying 2 weeks, 4 weeks, 6 weeks etc... because if they said 2 years, people will flip

Yeah my buddy working with the Feds said something similar about WFH. They have no intention to go back anytime soon.
He also told me about "balloon drops" this is something the gov does by testing the perception of the public when these stories "leak" about upcoming possible restrictions/lockdowns/curfews...

....i just want to go riding and forget about this crap for a bit....

Heading Up Into The Mountains Part II

So we gave it a week and came back to check out the trails south of the city. We're trying a different way this time, one that doesn't go right up and over the mountain, but kind of skirts around the edge of it. Hopefully we won't get denied by snow this time round.

gillard%202-X2.jpg

So far, so good...

Worryingly, the trail starts to climb a bit higher, but still no trace of snow. The bikes dance beneath us as the rocky path slowly winds south and then sharply turns westwards. And then we go up and up and up.

This is not good.

Until:

IMG_8395-X2.jpg

"Nooooo! Why is there so much snooooow?!?!

We trudge forward in the slush for a little while. From up ahead, Neda radios me: "There's a freakin' lake full of icebergs up here!"

"There's a lake beside the trail? I don't see one on the GPS?"
"No. There's a lake right in the middle of the trail. And there are icebergs floating in it!"

Apparently, it's *still* too early.

We turn back around. Thankfully, it's still early enough in the day to go back home and grab our street bikes and salvage the nice weather we're having.

Trail riding in the AM. Street riding in the PM

Staying in the valley, the temperatures soar up to 26C in the middle of the afternoon. What a difference from up in the mountains this morning!

Here's a couple of snippets of how our snow day went:

Our plans got changed around a bit. But it turned out to be another great day on two wheels!
