MM will want to collect every possible point he can because it might be a tight championship by the end of the season.My understanding is they are not allowed to open them up. If there’s an issue with the motor, they must swap it out for one from their allocation.
Once they use up the allocation, each subsequent engine means a penalty to the rider (starts next race from pit lane).

the way those 3 angled screws hold the fracture in place reminds me of some the most creative-absurd patch jobs I've seen on some hotel furniture in some of the more sketchier places I have stayed in.
