2020 MotoGP Discussion (NO LINKS)

Me too, he should have retired, I'll bet there would have been an uproar if he'd had to bail heading into turn 3.

Admittedly, I'm a bit of a KTM fanboy...
But who would have thought that a rookie (Brad Binder) would be in 4th place in the standings, that KTM is currently 3rd in Constructors points (with Honda in 5th (!!??!), and that KTM would lose all concessions this early in the season?

Definitely a freaky year.

“A bit of a KTM fanboy”?
Jesus, that’s the understatement of the year!!

Shouldn't you be out riding Jenny Craig around?!?!

*For those of you who don't know, Katatonic added a porker to his stable. Our group of friends has instilled the "Jenny Craig" name on to it.

Add a satellite ktm win for good measure. Oliveira is a solid rider.

KTM has a pretty good group without a doubt - I think losing Pol Espargaro and replacing him with Danillo Petrucci is a lateral move at best, likely a slight downgrade... I'll bet that Pit Beirer and crew are kicking themselves knowing that Dovisioso is available now. Such is life. They had to take a gamble or possibly be left out in the cold.

Hopefully Iker Lecuono will start coming to grips with the bike soon - at that point they will have a legit chance of 3 riders in the top 10 at the end of the season.

I am not sold on Iker Lecuona. I know Herve Poncheral knows better than I do, so he must see something that I don't, but I remain skeptical.

KTM would have definitely considered Dovi, but it might have put Oliveira at risk. He was unhappy at the fact that he was not on the factory team (I know this one was a bit cloudy all-round) so if were to be passed over one more year, he might have walked. It's possible Dovi would have taken the Tech3 seat, but i guess we'll never know.

I don't see Dovi anywhere but Aprilia at this point. They're the only team with an open seat (kind of) and both he and the team are Italian - makes for good advertising possibilities. I don't think any of the other factories view Dovi as good enough to spin off another entry.

I love the idea of Dovi @ Aprilia
hard worker, doesn't run his yap

Aleix seems to be out of excuses for being slow
Ianonne was developing the bike well...but the baggage
can they use him as a test rider?

so who figures Yamaha is secretly working on a V4?

Aleix is really overrated to me, but nevertheless, he is under contract next year. Aprilia is relatively frugal so they are not likely to drop Espargaro and pay the penalty for that. (Not a chance does Espargaro walk away willingly)

Very much doubtful. Suzuki is getting it done with their i4 after all, with a much shorter development period that Yamaha has had.

Here's a question:

does Honda regret signing Espargaro when all of a sudden there are riders that look faster than him? Also, Dovi is available too, and the rumour at the time was that Honda was interested in Dovi (they ended up signing Lorenzo instead). This is also a stretch but Nakagami looks like he can handle the Honda now as well (Pol is the better rider in this case)

Personally I don't like that riders are signed a year in advance to their next teams - I wish Dorna could prevent contract signings a year out somehow.

Great interview.

I especially agree with the comments about Pedrosa being the architect of KTM's fantastic performance.

Also, about MM93 leading the way, showing the rest of the field what is possible when you're at 10/10ths on a MotoGP bike. Without someone like that out in front, the level of aggression and pushing the limits has been dialed way back.

Here is the podcast which goes into greater depth than the article:

Rossi and Fabio's point is worth repeating as JLO hasn't participated in the testing at Misano:

I wonder if he really turns out to be a prospective rider for that Ducati after and that is what explains its all. Ducati stated they're going to announce it in Misano 2 and said it'd be an Italian rider, but who knows.

Jack Miller quotes of the day...

“The goal today is to finish”

“They’re all afraid of me.”

My predictions...the winner will be whomever can manage the soft rear tire today and not exceed track limits on the last lap .

1. Fabio
2. Morbidelli
3. Miller

Honourable mention to The Goat. Apparently he’s wearing a Viagra themed helmet so maybe he’ll make it hard for everyone and keep it up longer .

The big question is “where will the factory Hondas finish?”
