2019 success stories

Damn, some people had awesome 2019's. I am in a less exciting stage of life. Moved north to get more house but otherwise just plodding along.

For iceman, congrats. Now you can pickup Ducati's "attainable" bike with almost no pain. Cigarettes drain so much money it is unbelievable.

@Jayell Ugh....thanks for reminding me...I've been putting off having a will and I think I need to get this resolved sooner rather than later.

@crankcall Thanks again for the BBQ! Can't wait to use it. I'll be reading up on smoking and grilling during this rotation away. As for the RESP, yes we max out my son's contribution and will be dumping another 2.5k. this week. Still need to set up daughter's. It's literally free money. Gov't gives us cheques for kids, and then they contribute 20% of anything put in, up to a maximum of $500 contribution / calendar year. Free money.

well done @Iceman life will only get better from here, its going to be 9 years for me this Feb, and its one of the best things i've done

2019 was a great year, welcomed a baby girl into this world, haven't slept much since, but also haven't been happier, sold some toys bought some other toys, did a little racing, ate some good food, drank some good wine, spent time with people I love, hope to have more of the same in 2020 with more sleep hopefully

Had this on my 2019 objectives (https://mapleseedrifleman.com)

That’s on my list for this year. The events are few and far between this way though.

Its "Accessable" not "attainable" LOL . For Iceman, seriously if you've been a pack a day guy and affording it ( I have no clue, is that about $10-12 bucks now??) , open a direct transfer account and move $100 per pay aside, you should not miss it and finding $5,000K at Christmas that you didnt send up in smoke should be fun.
I stopped drinking for 90 days, based on data mined from my visa statement , I was $1,200 ahead. $100week x 12 weeks.......

Did a 3 week tour of SE Asia (Laos, Cambodia, Taiwan & Malaysia), including renting scooters and riding into the wilderness.
Discovered a whole world out there that does not involve all-inclusive resorts, big cities & local North America road trips.
Now I've got the travel bug!

That's what I did lol. $100/ week for the last 5 months, I'm well on my way to paying for the new yamaha t7 I ordered.

Finally did my landscaping after living in the house for six years. Need to try to finish the trim this year. Bought a new bow, and got a deer each of the first two days out with it.

Eldest graduated U of T with high distinction. Twins were accepted at community college. Did a trip to London, Edinburgh, and Dublin with the family, then a motorcycle trip to the Barber Museum in Alabama, with a friend, right after. Got a couple of service awards for putting in 750+ volunteer hours.

That’s great to hear @Iceman it’s really something I need to be doing myself. Every year I can tell the toll it’s taking on me lol.

Two things stick out for 2019. I stuck to going to the gym consistently for over a year so that was pretty big for me. Now I’m kind of addicted so it’s easy to go. The second was our family business moved to a new office after 22 years. It’s something we wanted to do for a while and we love the change.

Biggest thing I guess though is I started to put myself into position to buy another property this year. I’d like to buy either an investment property or if I can find the right place for myself on 10-25 acres around Midland/Coldwater area I’ll do that and rent my place in Hamilton. Goal is to be up there full time in 3-5 years and I’d also like to be mortgage free on a principle residence in 5 years just before I’m 40.

So I guess no big success in 2019 but I’m comfortable with the year and my current position.

If we all embraced a 'healthy' lifestyle, no smokes , limited booze, maybe walk to the corner store .... imagine our lives LOL
When my wife lived downtown for school a decade ago, we walked a lot. When walking is the fastest and cheapest option, I am in. Once we moved out to the burbs that basically stopped. Going on a 40 minute + walk to get groceries is not fun.

Everything in moderation.Well...except for a couple of things.

Really need to get my ass in shape now, time to change it to medium poppa.

I returned my parking pass last fall and started walking in to work from a free lot about 20 minutes from work. It's amazing what that little bit of regular exercise can do. My bp is down about 20 points and my cholesterol numbers are moving the correct way. Docs want to put me on drugs due to family history, but I am trying to control things with lifestyle changes.
