2019 Renewal - Increase? Allstate? Is this a joke?

Just got my renewal ( Jan8 ) with Dalton Timmis and SKY HIGH!!!!! My bike is up 30%, wife's 20% and house 35%. Still waiting on the cars but you can take a guess of what they will be. They are now closed for the night since they have cushy hours, but I will be cancelling everything with them if they are not willing to make a solution happen. Sorry to hear about screwed over by the other insurance companies.
May I ask who the insurer is ? Aviva?

Around $170 for bodily injury + property damage, what are you getting at ? (Not being a smart ***, I'm curious your thought behind asking).

As per document:

"Liability: Provides coverage for you or other insured persons if someone else is killed or injured or their property is damaged in an automobile accident. It will pay for legitimate claims against you or other insured persons up to the limit of your coverage, and the cost of settling claims."...

Per year? That's a good rate!
The majority of my motorcycle insurance cost is liability because I have minimal coverage on my motorcycles to keep the rates affordable. My motorcycle liability rates are near twice the cost to insure as my F350 dually diesel pickup truck hauling a 30+ foot travel trailer. It blows me away how they figure my 400 pound motorcycle can cause more liability damage then 12,000 pounds of truck and trailer. One would poke a small hole in something and the other would plow an 8 foot wide path through most anything :|

You forgot to factor in the frequency of claims. Motorcycles probably have 100x the number of claims of big expensive trucks even thought each individual claim may cost less. Also, I'm not entirely sure motorcycle claims cost less. There is a very good chance the dually kills people not in the truck while the motorcycle just injures people that weren't on the bike which is way more expensive.

Correct, this is how my past agent at statefarm who I had a great relationship with explained it to me when we started talking about me getting a bike again and how they had changed their stance and rating on sportbikes.

Frequency + Payouts to the rider who is injured is astronomical. So while the F350 towing a trailer might total itself and a few cars summing up to 120K, the riders rehab and benefits are WELL beyond that.

Yes, Aviva. Still waiting for Dalton to call back and have been getting better rates elsewhere, so far.

Hey, was wondering how many days in advance did Allstate send you the renewal details and was it by regular mail? Eagerly waiting for mine. Renewal is end of Feb.

I believe there is a thread on here about Aviva jacking up all the motorcycle rates, maybe car rates as well started last year.

My car was with Aviva and last year when I had to renew they jacked up the rates. F'that.
Called around and got a good rate from Rapters insurance (for the car). Yep they provide insurance.
What's funny, Avia is the actual insurance company for them, underwriter... go figure.

They gave me a nice gift bag at Christmas. Basic promo stuff, pen, pad, backpack, slip holder. Still kinda nice, I was shocked to receive it, never got anything like that from any insurance company. Kudo's to them.

So you guys read that as personal medical insurance for the rider? because I read that as coverage for the guy you hit in the event that you were liable for causing the accident.

I'm with Allstate.
First renewal coming up on February 22. They called me today to confirm everything and go over it all.
My rate down a grand total of $5 over my coverage (town house, F150 and KTM RC8r) - all said and done $2100ish after tax.
3 Million coverage on each.

Live in Waterloo for reference.

That rate would make me happy.

Never heard of them. Phone number, link?

Here is the website https://www.raptorsinsurance.com/aviva

When looking at my policy slip is actually stats S&Y insurance, with Aviva (I guess they all get a cut)
The number on there is 1-855-788-9090
(different then on the website)

The only reason I found these guys was from using these online quotes. The ones which price out a few companies for you.
Well it seems these are just front ends to the insurance companies Meaning some companies each have their own "find the cheapest rate" quote front end which puts theirs to the top of the list, and basically you call the number to get the full quote. CAA has one, another company has another etc.. Anyhow I tried a few, and on one call they bounced me around until I ended up with this.

My renew is within the first 5 days of February, and I just got the mail on the 7th, so less than a month in advance personally.

It's also interesting to note they sent me forms to 'update' them on my vehicle use, none of which they seemed to apply to the new policy as it wasn't in their favor (married now, and short commute than they have down).

So you guys read that as personal medical insurance for the rider? because I read that as coverage for the guy you hit in the event that you were liable for causing the accident.

No, you're correct, I got carried away/off topic. Maybe it's simply a 400lb missle hitting the drivers door of a vehicle, and frequency of such event carries more risk to them, than your fully loaded F350.

We are of course, assuming that there is a rhyme and reason as to their rating system... lol

It's too bad how we can't get an explanation from companies on how this is rated.

Absurd, I'm at $2M liability, my 'new' property rate costs 70% of your entire policy, and geographically I can guess that my house is probably valued at the same or less than your townhouse.

Unexplained Legal Theft is what it should be called, not 'insurance'

I wonder if all of the american based companies will be jacking rates to cover their losses on the fires.

@rust0r

I'd be interested to see why your home insurance rate sky rocketed so high vs last year. I agree that doesn't make sense. I'd like to take a look for you to make sure everything is correct on the policy. When you have some time give me a call at 289-460-4276.

In terms of bike rates, Allstate is staying pretty even keel in 2019 vs previous years in the sport bike department which is good for the overall riding community. We've adjusted our age qualification slightly for sport bikes and our rates have adjusted a bit but nothing crazy. I know certain insurers this year are kicking out riders with less than 6 years riding experience based on the calls I've been getting so far. It's still early and many of you haven't gotten your renewals yet but Allstate may be a decent option to try this year for those in need. This forum is a great resource with a lot of insurance specialists representing various companies. I suggest you all scour through the insurance specialist section and try us all out to see which one offers your specific situation the best price. I can be found on there and welcome all interested parties to reach out for a quote.

Cheers,
Matt

Hey Matthew, would you please share some more details on the age requirement ? Last year it was 30, has it increased this year? Would existing clients be dropped on renewal if they're below the new age requirement ? Thanks!

Hi Matthew, thanks for the response, definitely will be giving you a call; hoping it's a simple clerical error lol.

I do want to clarify for the forum that my individual experience with Matthew has always been awesome, and my rant/frustration with rates/renewal has no direct relation to his service whatsoever.

It would be unreasonable to assume any one agent can review and vet their entire client bases policy renewals, especially when in a position like Matthew where you serve such a large area/market and with many of the renewals most likely coming within a 1-2 month span of one another.

Wow that is pretty sweet... I wish I had a rate like that, I pay close to that for 1 vehicle...
I guess living in the stix has some benefits.

How bloody much are people paying in the city? I'm paying approximately $3000/year for two bikes, car, minivan, townhouse and a boat. Everything has full coverage.
