2017 gsx-r 1000

Why would anyone pay 18k for a bike. Lots of good lightly used bikes for under 10k.
Why would anyone pay 10k for a bike? Lots of good lightly used bikes for under 5k.

Haha! This whole thread has gotten silly.

I really hope this bike is good and the new tech works well. Now if Honda could find some HP we'd have all the 1000's on the same page.

If they do a really good job it'll be 1% better than the competition.

Unfortunately it looks like something from 2006 when Suzuki fired all their designers. I wouldn't give em $8k for it.

2016 GSX-R 1000's are on a much bigger sale. The 2016 ZX10R is priced $3000 higher than the 2016 GSX-R 1000 which can be had for - $12,800. Great opportunity to own a new bike!

Those GSXR's are a good deal if its what you are after, also a 5 year warranty and really low financing. However if you spend the 3k extra on parts I doubt you could get the GSXR to where the zx10 is, and the zx10 is still restricted as hell from the factory.

Ok so let's compare 2018 gsxrs and zx10s....

When you can no longer buy the current generation zx10 for 15000 and 18000 is what they actually sell for, than It makes sense to compare the MSRP's until than why not compare what you can actually buy the ZX10 for to the GSXR. Actual cost is more important than a suggested retail number, is it not?

Honda:lmao:

Thought they were the best, yet they are laggards.
Give them 2 years they will introduce some ground breaking tech (to them) that will be what others have been doing for years prior.
Que the Honda fan boys/girls.

What would the ZX10R and RR look like if/when they are unrestricted?

It really is insane looking at these rockets evolve.

We're comparing msrp's on a new bike that has just been released and one that's a year old. 2016 you weren't getting heavily discounted 2016 zx10's as you won't with the gsxr until 2018 when there's leftover 2017's. So, keeping all things equal, all the new 1000's msrp for close to $20k. Doesn't matter what you get a leftover bike for, buy a 2017 zx10, it's $18000.

Right, except its not 2016 and the new zx10r has not just been released, its now a year old so you can get the discount on it, just like you will be able to on the GSXR next year but its not next year yet. You can currently buy a Gen5 ZX10 for 15000, that is its actual price, today, tomorrow and for the next probably few months.

The new R1's are the same way, MSRP is xx but you can get the same thing in last years colors for significantly less. If kawasaki had changed something on the zx10 it would make much more sense to compare MSRP's but they didn't.

you win.

If you want a modern 1000cc super sport you gotta pay about 7-8k at least. Example:

That's a dinosaur

If you are going racing, and are serious about it in a modern superbike class, something 2 generations old is not going to cut it.

I saw a dyno chart of a bone-stock 2017 GSXR1000 compared to the ZX10 and R1, and it has more torque throughout the rev range. There is one specific RPM where the ZX10 comes close but the GSXR has more above and below with a very flat torque curve. That's VVT at work.

Stock to stock, the GSX-R has a @#$%pile more power than any other Japanese bike and as much as pretty much any euro bike with a slip-on. We'll see what happens when you flip out the stock whale-penis exhaust on the GSX-R and give it a custom tune. The chassis and suspension are another topic.

That is the only thing that really matters, it could make 5hp for all I care with the stock muffler on, although it is nice to see impressive numbers in stock form its not what the vast majority care about. Can't to see what it does and for all the damn shootout videos to come out, I just find them entertaining and sometimes its funny to see what the biggest gripes journalists have with bikes.

Another thing to keep in the back of your mind. Anything we're seeing now are pre-production / early production examples. The production bikes will be restricted ... somehow. They all are. It's only a matter of how, and how much.

Every time a new sport bike shows up, the marketing hype goes into action, it's supposed to be a big improvement with a big increase in power and lighter and yada yada, and then reality sets in and it's a minuscule incremental improvement ... if that. Seen all that waaaayyyy too many times over the years.

The electronic packages of the Honda and Suzuki are bound to be huge leaps compared to the outgoing models ... if only because of how far behind they had fallen compared to several competitors ...

Actual cost is on Kijiji right now.
