A man is in serious condition after his motorcycle collided with a cab near Exhibition Place Saturday evening.

Pictures from the scene showed a trail of blood on the ground next to the cab’s crushed passenger-side door.

Emergency services were called to Lake Shore Blvd. and Ontario Dr. at 10:21 p.m. The motorcyclist was rushed to a trauma centre with serious injuries.

Police are investigating the collision.

This was a bad area to ride in this weekend with the digital dreams festival going on. 50 thousand people at the festival with more cabs in one condensed area than I've ever seen before. GWS rider!

First i want to thank all of you guys for the well wishing. I am the one having the accident on Lakeshore and Ontario Road. It is funny that i was looking for articles for my insurance and came across this forum.
I was riding a Victory Hammer S 2007. That motorcycle was a beauty but on June 30th 2013 i was going east on Lake Shore and i had my wife as a passenger. Right on Ontario there was a cab waiting to make a U turn (illegal). I never notice him because everything was OK untill he decided to proceed with the U turn and i hit him on both passenger doors and windows. My wife hanged on on me and never let go. I hit the cab at full force 70KMH and lost continence until the hospital. One of my vains on my right arm was cut and i was loosing blood badly. The cabbie didnt give a **** to come out and help. My left let was badly mangled. So far i had 3 operations. One (major) on my knie. They inserted a metal plate. Another major was my ankle. Broken in 68 pieces. one of 4 doctors gave the idea to cut my leg below the ankle.
Long story short i will be on metal plates and cast for minimum 2 years.
I lost my motorcycle and probably never will ride again. For a stupid $20 fair the cabbie didn't give a **** and almost killed me. Guys never nver trust a taxi what ever the situation it is.
I want to thank you guys again for the well wishes. The certainly helped a lot.

Sorry to hear about your accident. Glad you came out of it alive with your wife! I wish you all the best in the healing process and a speedy recovery. Listen to the physiotherapists and they will get you back to shape ASAP.

Thank you again. I am looked after by ST Micheal's hospital doctors. I heard that they are the best when it comes to fracture.

I was looking at the news today and felt very bitter with all the motorcycle accidents. RIP to rider. I hope he is in a better place. Speedy recovery to other 2 riders.

Wow. Get well soon! Good luck with any lawsuit you may be able to launch against the company.

And you never know, you might be able to ride in the future, hand operated shifters and all.

Strangely today i got a call from the police officer that was on the accident seen. He was insisting for me to show up on the taxi cab driver court. He wanted for him to loose and learn his lesson.
The big question is should i get back in a motorcycle or not? The problem is because i am surrounded by friends and family that do not like much the motorcycles. Even if i get back it will be a very long time 2 years to be exact.
I love to ride but at the moment i am very afraid and terrorized.

Speaking from personal experience, don't rush to get back into riding. Confidence is the key here. It might take a while to gain it all back.
If you find yourself physically able, get a bike and start off slowly. Ride in your neighbourhood, avoid main streets. Then eventually if things progress, take it on a hwy outside rush hours.

Stay away from cabs.
And get well soon.

GWS Rider....
The way you tells the story started a slow-motion movie inside my brain picturing exactly what have happened.

Ride again or not, you make the decision

Take your time to heal time. Definitely listen to the doctors and physiotherapists, they know what they're doing. From personal experience, St.Mike's doctors are good...

And definitely take your time to heal up mentally. For some of us it's a long road to get back in the saddle and be comfortable in your head.

Thank you for the well wishes.

It's up to you man, give it time, rest up, ride again if and when you feel ready. For what it's worth, I'm honestly not surprised it happened. The taxis in Toronto are straight up insane and if I spend more than a couple of hrs downtown a taxi will make me make some pretty ignorant generalizations of an ethnic group that's particularly well represented in the taxi business. The law needs to bring down the hammer on taxis... twice in 1 hr walking downtown I had to dodge a taxi willing mow me down to earn his $25 a couple of seconds sooner.

Glad to hear your wife was okay. Personally, OP, I say ruin his life/take him for everything he's worth.

^^^This. Most of them don't give a sh*t for other drivers, much less for riders. He did not care about you coming in the opposite direction, you should not care for him either. Take him for everything he's got and then some.

Glad to hear that you're alive and your wife too, get well soon and take your time to recover, that's the important thing.

I hate reading stories like this. Having been in a recent motorcycle crash, these stories are now closer to my heart. I'm glad you survived and are well enough to think and type. No need to make a decision today about whether you will ride again. Just focus on getting better and work with your lawyer on the lawsuit. If you can make it, I suggest you go to court for cabbie's court case.

How is your wife? I hope she's in good shape.
