2013 Yamaha FZ8 and Flurries

I'm guessing he doesn't like the ergonomics and/or aesthetics? I know I like having a fairing - feels weird to have nothing in front of you on a naked.

You mean front/top fairing?
I don't think side fairings really do much.

To be honest. I miss my windshield on the R6. But it is easier and cheaper to get a new windshield for the current bike than changing bikes.

From my research there isn't a windshield that will offer decent wind deflection for my bike. (the nakedness complicates things a little) I may have to get a one from a different bike and modify the mounting points.

Even a ridiculously small deflector works some at speed.

You may be right for street riding. But on the highway not so much.
This ridiculously small deflector (left picture) does not do much on the highway.

I am thinking of getting the shield on in the right picture which is meant for an FZ-07 and modifying the mounting points.

Agree.
My factory front turn signal connectors actually had the running light wire in there already (blue).
The back was a different story.

I cleaned up a lot of the poor splicing from the previous owner(s). (Rip off some insulation and tie new signals wire in a knot and retape)?

I added my own proper connectors (soldered on) as I also added a aftermarket tail light and license plate lights. I have spare connections waiting for when I add additional turn signals to use when hard side cases are on. All enclosed in a small cigarette pack size “project box” under my seat.
What did you use for connectors, out of curiosity? (but maybe for practical purposes because the mess I described is the actual state I got my current bike in)

Didn't your bike come with a fairing and get converted to naked?

For the front I reused the factory connectors. I just replaced the stock turn signals with aftermarket ones.

But for the back, since I redid the wiring I used a combination of the 2 pictures below.
I used the doubles to pair up the common items. (I.E. left turn signal, right turn signal, running light as well as the ground. )
Because I have regular turn signals as well as the integrated ones in the tail light.
My turn signal also have running light markers as well as the 2 light for the licence plate. (screws with built in lights).

If you see the Video I posted you will see what I mean.

These are the connectors I used.
The are not permanent but hold well. If I need to under the wiring what whatever reason, I am easily able to do that.

I also came across these pretty cool inline connectors to minimize the thickness other Butt-connectors create.
They are pre-filled with solder and all you need to do is heat up the heat shrink with a lighter or small torch.
The solder will melt into the conductor creating a permanent "weld". Takes a couple to get used to so you don't over heat it, exposing the conductor. I still used some electrical tape on top sometimes.

Was converted to naked by the previous owner. Which reminds me, still need to contact him so he can give me the original parts.

Depending how many you need @TwistedKestrel I can spare you some as I got some left over.
