2013 Demo Days

How busy are these demo rides at Mosport?
If I show up tomorrow around 10-11 am - is there a chance I can still get on one or 2 rides, or all slots will be booked by then?

You should be fine for a few rides but all the fast sport bikes will most likely be booked..all depends on which bikes. The off road BMW didn't seem to book up very quickly...no line up on Friday at noon. Never a line up for the BMW scooters. Got there 9:30 this morning and booked a Suzuki GSX650 for a noon ride but only the CBR250 was available for a 1 pm ride. Don't forget most people want to watch the race and there might be a few more spots in the last afternoon when the main races are on.

I'm debating whether riding up from niagara will be worth it or not. It's gonna be all slab just to get there.

BMW road motorcycles were booked up fast, but surprisingly there were many openings for the maxi scooters, off-road bikes. My rides today that I enjoyed the most were. (starting from the best) 1. CB1100 2. F700 GS 3. C 650 sport Maxi Scooter 4. GSX-650F 5. GSX-R600 6. CB500F 7. BMW 335i

I'm not surprised that the CB1100 was your favorite considering your user name. :)

Personally, I think the CB is very, very sweet ....I just can't stomach the price Honda wants for it. :(

we were up in line at 7am Saturday and 720 on Sunday.......booked solid for most of the BMW's by 7:30. As mentioned the off road rides did fill up but it seems most were able to get in if they wanted to. Had the F700GS for the off road.....first time off road so can't really say much about the bike (no reference). Managed to get ahold of the S1000RR on Saturday. As fast as you would expect it to be.....under 8k.....that's when the limiter kicked in. Was told this was due to the "break in" period. Still lots of fun up to 8k......that electronic shift assist is something.

Curious, what's not to like about the CB500F? Was thinking of one for my wife.

Thanks.

Did some demo's at Mosport CSBK weekend.

Honda NC700: Stupid bike. Power band is so small(3-4k) it's not funny. Redlines at 6k. On an uphill climb it could not pull on the cb500 until about 120. Must hit the limited 5 times. The storage compartment is quite a size. Suspension was better than the CBR1000 I tried, but still pretty rubbish. The ABS system works really well though, you would pretty much have to stand on the rear brake to get it to engage ABS.

V-Strom 650: I now understand why everyone who tours has one. Easily one of the best bikes I have ever ridden. Plenty of power, but not too much. Smooth. Great riding position. Nimble. ABS cuts in a little early for my taste, the Honda system worked better. Reminded me of the F800GS but with a less buzzy engine. I could have easily done the BMW offroad demo with it.

BMW Offroad

Did it twice. Lots of fun. I have ridden dirt before so I pretty much hung back and tooled around.

F700: Light, low ground clearance. Clutch was annoying, engaged reaaaaally late which made the slow speed stuff more difficult. Throttle was really snappy as well. The low seat height and clearance didn't really suit my tall frame, but it was fine to rip around in the offroad portion.

F800: Liked it a lot more. A little heavier but you don't notice once you get moving. Power comes on really smooth. Better clutch. Higher clearance and seat height. Goes pretty good on the road and you can be a holligan with it on the dirt.

Both suffer from really buzzy engine's when you rev them up. I could see it getting annoying on a longer journey.

Really can't understand why anyone buys the 1200GS when the 800GS is more than enough for any on or offroad situation.

I rode the 800GS on the road as well and felt the same. Save the $10k and spend it on a trip where you'll actually use the bike to it's full potential. If you need more power then you need a sportbike.

This is probably one of the best multi purpose bikes. Easily upgradable to suit your particular needs and fairly inexpensive. If I were heading out on a long solo trip, this is the bike I'd be looking at (for mostly paved stuff anyway). I sold my '07 because it wasn't going to cut it for us 2up and gear. Brings me to my next point...

2up with enough gear for a few months...yeah I can see the appeal of the 1200. If I had to pick one of these 2 machines, I wouldn't. But that's just me. After my test ride of the Tiger 800xc, I would have to say either one of the Tiger 800's or the 1200 (Tiger Explorer) would be a better choice for my money. I know there are plenty of folks that love beemers, and plenty that don't. If it's strictly/mostly for off road, either one of the GS bikes would not make my short (or even long) list. This is all so very subjective anyway, what works for 1 may not work for someone else. That's the beauty in having all this choice.

Great List! Thanks for the FreeRide, Lol!
I am shopping for my next bike, and this is going to be the holy grail to my findings,
Thanks for All your Help!

ATTENTION:

LAST RIDE FOR THIS YEAR (AT LEAST FOR HONDA) IS IN 20 DAYS (Sep 19th) IN HAMILTON, MAKE SURE TO CALL IN TO BOOK IN ADVANCE FOR A SPOT IF YOU WANT TO TRY OUT THEIR BIKES. IF IT RAINS, THE SHOW WILL GO ON, EVEN FOR 600RR AND 1000RR. LETS HOPE FOR THE BEST WEATHER AND EVERYONE ABLE TO BOOK THEIR DREAM BIKE. IF THEY DON'T TAKE RESERVATIONS, THEN IT IS FIRST COME FIRST SERVE. FROM MY EXPERIENCE FOR A WEEKDAY DEMO, MOST PEOPLE GO IN THE MORNING, THEN IT GETS LESS BUSY INTO THE AFTERNOON.

HAVE FUN ON THAT DAY GUYS!

Does anyone know if Yamaha has any demo days remaining this year? I'd really like to try the Super Tenere. I skimmed the Yamaha website and didn't notice any upcoming events.
