My vote goes to the CBR:
-Sat on both at the show, and maybe due to being a bit shorter and inseam challenged (5'8 with a 30" inseam) I found the CBR much more comfortable than the 636. With the Honda, yes there is a lot of forwards lean, but with the 636 it was like I had no choice but to actually lay on the tank. The closest thing I can compare this to is the 636, to me, felt like being on a 1000cc bike size-wise and not a 600.
-Call me odd, but I didn't care for the 636 in person, whereas I liked it a lot in photos...whereas I didn't care for the new CBR at all in pictures, but seeing it person I actually kinda like it, even more than the outgoing model (but not in the hideous tricolour scheme they put on it).
-Build quality of Honda always seems better, at least to me, if you plan on keeping it long term.
Again, I wanted to like the 636, but at least to me, between the two Honda is the winner, but that's just my own personal 2 cents. I do however think the 636 has a LOT going for it, as others have mentioned (TCS, slipper clutch, power modes, etc) that Honda should have offered and/or included, or they should have priced the CBR slightly lower as it's a hard sell given the price of the bike compared to the competition.
