My problem is that usable power is only in the higher ranges (vs a bigger bike still being fairly quick at lower rpms). I ride out of the powerband when there aren't any cars around, but as soon as I encounter traffic, it's back to the powerband. But even when I called you out, I still had the milage from when I was riding conservatively in mind.

As for riding in the powerband, most of the time in traffic I don't, even though most would say you should just in case. I'm in 6th gear 90% of the time cruising at 50km/h and above, it's a 250 that doesn't get any power 'til 8000rpm anyway. Some may say you should stay in the powerband just in case you need to avoid something with power, but even riding in the powerband on a little 250 isn't going to save you from anything with speed. I just adapt my riding style to try and completely avoid situations like that as best I can.

That's actually one thing I like about my CBR250R is that it has more usable power in the lower RPM range, so it pulls quite good between 4-9K (vs 8K-redline). As previously mentioned though, this comes back on the CBR at higher speeds in 6th gear, since the engine is running at the top of (or out of) it's powerband, whereas the Ninja is likely sitting in the middle of it. I haven't gotten to that point on mine yet (only been up to about 120km/h as I'm still breaking it in), but no doubt the Ninja has more power in reserve north of 130-140.

Also as previously mentioned by myself and others, I do find it funny so much time is spent on 'which is the fastest 250' -- Both are 250s, so like Jayy pointed out it's like comparing minivans or more aptly a Civic to a Corolla. Sure it matters to a point, but if speed (above 100-120) really is a concern/high priority to you then you likely won't be riding a 250cc for very long (esp if you have the budget for something larger).

Wrong a ninja 250 will lean further on a 140 BT003 than any stock tire period. There is no way to drag the front fairing witout lowsiding on the stock tires throw on a set of 03's remove the peg feelers and the front fairing will drag without losing the bike.
So if we weren't talking about the fact that bt003 is a way better tire than any of the 130s available...wouldn't you still be able to go just as low on 130s if you took out the peg feelers?

The limitation here is the tire quality, not its ability to lean over. Although that does sound pretty fun

Nofear, I think I have a new personal worst. It's looking like I'm only gonna get 200-210 kms on my last fill-up -_-

Sorry guys, can you elaborate on this "tire" issue/discussion or point me to the location, I am still running on Stock tires and have been thinking of the change/price tag/differences/benefits/drawbacks/etc

Yes you could acheive the same lean angle if there was a decent 130 made but there isnt so no point in debating it. The 140 doesn't effect handling or lean angle at all.

So my 2 cents, please take this as that, I'm a noobie.

I'm 6'2 250lbs. Never sat on a cbr 250.

Bought my 2011 ninja 250 SE brand new 5200 all in. Only thing i've done to it is an obnoxiously loud slip on yoshimura, it makes people notice you on city streets. no jetting yet, although i'm considering it, runs fine up top, just down low it runs a lil to lean.

first gear stop to 40~k is a lil slow up to about 10k. after that its a lil rocket if you stay in the power band. Stock tires are Grippy, but i'm going to change em out next season for a set of softer tires, as when you're pushing it a little, you can feel the hardness of them.]

I Haven't taken it on the highway but 110 km on city streets is very comfortable. I can't condone this behavior.

If you stay in the power band, there's plenty of power to pass from 2nd gear and up. Also, when you stay in the power band and on the throttle @ the right speed its cuts through twisties steady and smooth.

Clutch is smooth, gears are easy to find. If you know how to work a clutch, you will love the seamless shifts that are possibly.

I've locked the breaks once, stay upright and in a straight line with a bit of tail wiggle.Once you find the limit, its all good. Never been a problem since. (I hate abs, weather its in a 911 turbo, m3 wrx sti or a chevy.)

I personally find this bike is easier to ride aggressively than cruise on, it likes to scream.

*edit* by far my favorite thing about this bike is that you can push it and work it through the gears. More input and more control to keep you busy. Its so much fun to ride and hear it scream.

PS. I think the best comparison to 4 wheels would be like driving around a mini cooper s or fiat 500 abarth.

Once you jet it, it'll feel like a whole new bike. My powerband and is pretty much from 0-13,000 rpms.

I like being able to tune my bike without worrying about FI things.

Just to update, took it out on the highway this weekend. pulls up to 120 great. 120-140 is good enough to pass safely . after that for someone my size its probably a crapshoot, one day soon i'm sure i'll try a top speed run.

So I finally did it.... Got a used 2011 Ninja 250r from a fellow GTAMer.
Can't wait to get it on the road and enjoy this weekend. Will be practicing a lot in a parking lot to start with.

Got a 250 from a fellow GTAMer and also got screwed by him...

Anyways. I've had the bike for a week and I'm already bored of it. I want a 600cc bike already. Didn't think I'd get bored so quickly but I did. Gonna try to keep it for one season though.

Screwed? How? Also give the bike some time... don't rush into an upgrade

Screwed as in didn't disclose a crack on the bike and now says it wasn't there when he sold me the bike even though I proved it was...

As for an upgrade, I will definitely wait. I know I'm going to lose money on the bike already cause of the crack. (I will definitly disclose it when selling the bike.) So I might as well keep it for at least a season and next season think of switching.

Reading through this thread I am suprised by the prices people are paying for these bikes I paid $5083.87 out the door for the wifes cbr 250 last year and that was just the price they quoted me no haggling.
As for the speed I dont think 1 or 2 km/hr really makes that much difference and I love the efi as I don't have to go start it for her on cool mornings.
I think the stalling thing must be just on some of the bikes as she has never experienced that.

Whoah none of the quotes I got came even close to $5100. And I got many quotes.
Good u got a steal. I now regret the deal I got. Oh well can't change the past....

cbr but I'm biased :)

My personal thought is that you should just go with what you want. There is no "best" when it comes to personal preference because it's all subjective. So go ahead and get what suits your likings, and more importantly, your pocket book.

I would pick the CBR250. Biggest difference between the two is ABS. That's why I went with the CBR and didn't consider the ninja

I would've bought a cbr250 too if I bought new. But I bought used. So went with the ninja.
definitely will be changing next year though.

How the? Were you riding in first gear everywhere?
I go WOT everywhere lol. But even when I'm riding at low rpms, I don't get more than 250kms...so something's definitely up. I can't blame that big of a difference on an exhaust change :S
