2007 Honda shadow with extremely low KMs - Red flag?

Looking to get my first bike and a 2007 Honda shadow has caught my eye, it has 3,500KM on it. From what I've read, a bike sitting for long periods of time is just as bad as a poorly maintained bike. What are some of the things I should look out for when I check the bike out? Should I avoid it altogether? It's one of the few ads that allows a test drive (that I can't take advantage of anyways since I'm extremely new to riding and I have no friends into riding either).
The seller wants $4000 for it.

@warchief read the advice in reply to your other post.
Where is the bike located? There are some members on here that may be able to meet you there and check it out. How many kms are extremely low?

It depends on how the seller stored the bike over time. Heated/unheated garage? Outside under tarp? Last oil/filter change? Was exhaust/airbox plugged to discourage vermin from nesting? Mice can chew on the wiring harness. It will likely need new tires if they're the factory originals. 8-9 year old rubber will be hard and slippery (plasticizers gone), so beware on that test ride. Is the battery just as old? Is this your first bike? Get a GTAMer to help you out. It's easy to be dazzled by the buying experience and not notice some obvious problems. The seller may have dropped/lightly crashed the bike, then decided to quite riding.

Bike is located in the North York part of Toronto. Seller says it has 3,500KM on it.

Yeah not too far for many guys. Some may do it for free, but I would be prepared to slip them a few bucks. And some may even have a trailer. As @flywheel said, things like tires may need to be replaced, even with low kms. I would take that off the price. Don't recall if the 07 was shaft or chain...I want to say shaft so afaik that *should* be one less thing to worry about. If you don't need much to do to it, and can get it for 3200-3500 imho I think that would be a deal. Even if it's 4g with some work, I would think you come out ahead. But I'm biased towards the Shadows.
Not sure if mentioned but see if he has the uvip already. Always nice to know the bikes history / any liens prior to handing over cash.

I think the RS was the only 750 Shadow with chain drive.

You mean in 07 or ever?

I hate when they say firm. Tires better be brand new and I would want to see receipts for all the maintenance. I need to see what other 07s are going for.
Brb.

I'm back. It's only about $500 cheaper than similar bikes. And even at 10 or 15k that's not a lot of kms imo. If he is firm on the $4k, I would want safety included in that price.

Doesn't sound too bad assuming it has been kept indoors and clean. Would definitely need fresh oil and new rubber though.

I paid 4 ish for a 2010 shadow RS. Better be in good shape with reasonably new tires. Rosie toes is in north York, take it to him for evaluation,
BTW the shadow s are very nice bikes, cumfy and fun to ride, the RS model is slightly sportier, different rake and more ground clearance.

well, if you compare all 2007 Honda shadow 750s with under 3,500 km, he's the lowest...there's one for $4500 with 2,374 km and the others are all over $5000...

$3500 was my budget going into it, but I don't mind paying $4000 because of the lower KMs if it's been properly maintained.

I don't mind paying someone to help me check it out at all, anything to help my first time buying experience is well worth the cost. I think 07 was the year they went to shaft drive.

Pm @lowrider I know that he has offered his services before.

Some people only ride to the local tim hortons and home.
Ad says that the bike was the guy's father's, and that it was just too heavy for him.
Seems legit.

As long as it shows that it's been taken care of I don't subscribe to the "stay away from an old bike with low miles" mantra. Mileage wears things, neglect (sitting in the weather) can cause issues, lack of proper maintenance prematurely wears things....but if it's been sitting covered in a garage somewhere and properly maintained for the miles it has....don't discount it.

My bike averaged only a little over 1000K for every years of it's age when I bought it (ie, it sat a LOT) and I've put nearly 6000K on it since buying it in October without a problem in the world.
