$20 a week to rent a satellite phone for emergencies??

One other thing with SPOT is that renewal is automatic. If you think you're not going to be travelling for a year or so you have to specifically ask to be disconnected or they automatically bill your credit card. It's not unlike insurance, cell phones etc.

Not saying satellite phone wouldn't have been good but if you were truly worried about your gf you could have found a way to contact her.

Wasn't as easy as that....it never is for me. ;)

It was just as a storm was coming in and I had to quickly pull off the parkway. (It was such a freak storm and the Motel was so ghetto they had to bring in a little portable heater to heat the room during the storm.)
It was a "Motorcycle friendly" Inn off the parkway (the name elludes me, but there was signs about no gang colors or firearms/weapons allowed)...and crazy enough it didn't have any wi-fi, phones in the room, or any cell signal. Even the TV was tiny and only had about 6 channels.

After I left the Motel I rode about an hour in hard downpour to the first place I could find with Wi-Fi.

...and to be clear I wasn't worried at all. She was....and I really didn't think she would have been to that extreme. :rolleyes:

LOL. No. It didn't. It was fairly Ghetto. ...and the scary bikers drinking around the drum/garbage can on fire(plus the sign I mentioned) made me want to wait till morning. :)
