So Maranello on the S side of Steeles is moving up with the rest of the Ferri Group dealers at Weston S of 7.

And Daytona on the N side has cardboard over all their windows so I'm assuming they've shut down. They did leave their sacrificial old Harley behind there on the grass though.

I always got the impression Daytona was struggling. The two or three times I went there, no one was in the store front. Including employees. Someone would eventually come out almost suspicious of why someone would be in the store. Yet there was a fair amount of high dollar stock i.e. pricey helmets.

I always hoped they were doing well. We all know we could use more motorcycle specific vendors. Maybe the proximity to Corsa Meccanica would help. Kinda like the Royal Distributing and GP Bikes in Oshawa. But if they did indeed fold, I'm not surprised.

Maranello not only left . They moved to a sole source BMW dealer and service. I called and confirmed , they no longer service the Ducati bikes they sold only a few months ago. It's only a matter of time the BMW side will also disappear seeing that they are working out of a car dealership area now.

I don't understand sales of motorcycles seem to be up this year. Yet in a large city like Toronto they are next to no dealers.

On a side note anyone know where the Ducati service tech's may have moved on to?

The biggest sales percentage increases in 2020 and 2021 have been in off-road and dual sport, hardly the 416 target market.

Yes it was coming for a while I tried to buy some things there but they never had any useful response to emails. When asked what boots they had in stock the only answer was come see.

The rent in Toronto is a lot different than in Whitby (GP and Royal) However with all these retail stores and restaurants closing this may change in the next year or two. Office space in Toronto has come down in price with many companies not needing as much space with many employees now working from home. Retail and apartment landlords still want their top dollar. I guess we will see how it turns out over the next 6 to 18 months.

I remember when Daytona Motorsport was a big bike dealer on the south side of Steeles circa 2005 and earlier. Sold mainly sport bikes. They seem to have been in decline for years. They were only a gear shop in the end. Tough times for the motorcycle industry have turned around a bit this year, but I think over the long term the slide will continue unless there's a drop in insurance and renewed interest from young people, of which there aren't many these days because nobody had kids over the past 20 years.

Where does one go for repairs and service these days? Daytona was a convenient location for me they had this mechanic there who I thought was pretty good.

On a Daytona related note. I think it was the proprietor of Daytona, he lost a leg in a motorcycle accident in Florida, I think it was sometime last year. I went there one day last summer and saw him with a metal leg asked him what happened and that is what he told me.

I'm very sad to see Daytona on Steeles go. It's my closest and favorite shop of all. Ted Rosey is too crowded with people. I found another decent bike mechanic shop at Highway 7 just east of Keele st in Concord but they are too relaxed and too slow for my tastes. Covid-19 sucks.

Incorrect. From what I see in the trails talking to people in the lots and in the trails the majority of new sales are city guys looking for something for either them or their family to do. I don't see nearly the numbers of country people taking up dirtbike/atv because of the lockdown because most already had a small bubble and not nearly as much during this time has changed for their activities. So even if they may not have the bikes/atv to offer, they have access to the gear they could bring in to help pay the bills.

I didn't phrase my comment correctly. Sales of snowmobiles, watercraft, boats, atvs, utvs and off road motorcycles in 2020 and 2021 are up (depending on category) between 130% and 300% (watercraft), hence the current inventory shortages at dealers. Street bike sales have not kept pace, so shops in the 416/905 have not seen the growth unless they specialize in those areas. Out of town dealers have reaped the benefits - buy it where you use it.

Daytona may be rising from the ashes as the cardboard over the windows is gone and there's been a smaller bike parked in front of the door the last 2 times I've looked.

not sure about daytona but maranello was weird as hell, I called asking about a certain BMW sport tourer, they tell me all the bikes in the ads online... are fake, and the ones they have are all fully decked out etc and the price difference is like 6 grand from the online ads(apparently all the ads are misleading clickbait.)

so anyway, I ask about a final price and a possible test ride, guy insists I have to be here in person, when I tell him im no longer in the GTA, and it would be tough for me to come down just to kick the tires, guy starts rambling off about random nonsensical bible verses about a mountain and Mohammad? 🤷‍♂️

When I called Maranello just before they moved. I asked what was happening with the Ducati side? E.g . Are the service tech moving elswhere, going to the BMW dealership , can we still get authorized service. etc. He just laughed. Its like it was my fault they decided to close up and move.,Great way to treat a loyal customer. Its just odd.

That’s Cray 100%.

Tell him Chris with the XR says for him to take care of you.

If you want the Ducati tech from Maranello, he opened a shop in Mississauga.
