if you`re not handy with a wrench or know someone who is this may not be a great buy, mileage isn't that big of a deal if it's been maintained.

Did you consult your insurance company before selecting a GSXR600 as your first bike?

Its 23 years old - finding parts might be a struggle.
Rule #1 never buy a bike older than you are except as a project.

You definitely want to get insurance lined up before buying that as a first bike.

Yea mitchel and whales they quoted me 400 inchange for a 600 sport bike originally desjardans was the firm of choice theu 5 brokers I called all quoting me between 6-7k yearly for only liability with my course

Make sure you provide the VIN during the quote. People have had an unpleasant surprise after buying the bike because someone at the insurer didn’t have the right model punched in.

$6-7k!

For that cost, check insurance on a new ninja 400 and ride the **** out of it for 1/3 the insurance cost... and a warranty...

Vin will play a role in the policy price? Even though the bike is 600 sport and gsxr or ninja or cbr

you cant be sure they know what model you`re telling them, most of them haven't a clue about bike models.

I'm going to suggest that Mitchell and Whale's quote was, to be blunt, wrong. And the quotes for ~$6K+ were accurate. That's why @Evoex is suggesting to make sure they have the VIN and have entered it properly - you likely got a broker who entered the bike all wrong in their system - there is pretty much zero percent chance a new zero experience young rider getting insurance on a 600R for $400/year...sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but...it is what it is.

There's guys with 25 years of accident free motorcycle experience in their 40's and 50's who might not even see those sorts of rates on a 600R.

You have been given some good advice already, but what other bikes have you been looking at or lined up. Just because someone in your neighbourhood has a bike for sale doesn't mean you shouldn't look elsewhere. Hopefully you have other reasons for riding other then this bike.

Seen bikes around for various prices across ontario some greater than other in terms of mileage cosmetics and price figured that the price was alright and nearby reasonbfor riding always wanted to get into asides watercraft and atvs that I've already done and still do been looking at sport bikes gsxr ninja and cbr learned on a cbr 300 and borrowed a dirt bike 250 prior to the course to get a feel but that was on the trail with a dirt bike want to add more fun into my life I know the dangers are there

$400/month....ok, well, yeah, that's more realistic. When you quoted that solo and then all the others in yearly I thought you were talking a full year for $400. That's possible for experienced riders on non sport bikes, but not for a new rider on a supersport.

Keep in mind that it may not seem bad at this point but when you're paying that $400/month still in October/November thru April when the bike is sitting unused, it may not seem to palatable anymore. Something other than a 600r for your first bike will likely get you into a better insurance segment. When I first started riding in the 90's I was paying in that territory then myself for my first bike and I remember thinking it was all great in the summer...but once winter came around and I watched that chunk of money leave my bank account every month even when I hadn't had the bike even uncovered for months, well, it sours things a little.

Your right but that's the trade off in Canada for bike insurnace cant cancell for winter unfortunately that's the only downfall I see was surprised with the quote from mitchel and whales because riders plus wouldn't insure me and I was recommended to them thru the motorcycle course but I guess I best get the bikes vin b4 making a purchase

You *can* cancel in the winter, but you'll just get a bill in the mail for the weighted months you didn't pay for, so you're no further ahead. Worse off actually in the end as you won't have contiguous insurance to show for it which is something that matters a lot for motorcycles.
