18 yo/ 1982 Honda Ft500 Ascot. No insurance less than 4500! WTF?

statefarm is the one who told me to put it in my dads name as it would be cheaper. I doubt they would tell me to break the law.

It is against the law, but if the agent is indeed suggesting this them be sure to write it down on a piece of paper and get them to sign. I don't think you will get a signature.

You sound really funny with this remark. So insurance companies are not fraudalent for charging us compulsory un-rideable winter months but we are crooks for trying to avoid getting shafted? Hahahaha!!!

Read my stickies about cancelling a policy and the concept "earned premium". Discussed to death.

Rates for Ontario are calculated to take into account lower riding levels during the off-season.

Even so, that doesn't stop anyone from riding in winter. I ride in winter, as do others. You should have no problem at all riding your little dualsport on Toronto streets throughout the winter. Toughen up a little and get your full money's worth out of your insurance if it bothers you that much..

If you ride all winter, you are getting MUCH more than your money's worth. I would consider winter riding to be double the risk exposure of peak season riding due to the additional weather hazards. If someone was able to ride their bike year round, the premium they would be paying would amount to only about 1/3 of their expected loss . . . you'd be screwing your insurer over good! :)

I guess it's my age but after searching hours upon hours and coming up with $12,000-$5,600 and feeling like **** cause I just bought a bike and wouldn't be able to afford to insure it. State farm gave me full coverage for $134.00/month on a 2006 Yamaha r6s. I am 27 and only have my m1(for less than 2 weeks when I got the coverage). No tickets and have had my g for about 7yrs. So ya if ur young looks like u gotta have some deep pockets or as hard as it might be some patients. But that's hard to say when u really wanna ride NOW. But that is the reality. Best of luck

The premium is expensive because beginner riders do not belong on SS bikes. Even though SF stupidly writes 25yo+ noob operators affordably on SS bikes, they really aren't doing them (or other SF policyholders who must bear the cost of increased premiums) any favours.

The prices should be high for SS bikes, but the reality is that for young people prices are high for all bikes - even scooters.

For new riders (at least those under 25yo), the Jevco premium on a non-SS bike is significantly cheaper than a SS bike with any other insurer.
