hey was just bored at work and looking into my next seasons bike :p. Looking for a sport-touring/standard

Suzuki
95 prior GSXR1100
Sv1000

Honda
CB 919
95 prior CBR 900RR

Kawasaki
Z1000

(Can't go with statefarm, if I was able to I wouldn't be riding a sv650 right now)

Ducati - Street fighter

Buell - 1125R

I would seriously like to know which insurance companies consider these bikes as standard...
Streetfighter is an insanely twitchy hooligan to ride.
1125r (my ride) - cheapest insurance I could find is $1300 without collision. Put on an HMF exhaust and EBR ECM, and it puts out 141 hp at the wheel.

If your company considers the 1125r standard, they've gotta be cheaper than Jevco (current insurer).

Sv1000s

No buell bikes are surcharged by jevco, my insurer, and streetfighter just came off surcharge list as of may 1st

The Streetfighter is very well composed... I didn't find it twitchy at all, in fact below 4000rpm its totally docile. There's a bit of a flatspot there then it picks up the power strong after 5k. If you can afford it, it's easily the best bike on your list hands down.

And for what its worth, State Farm doesn't surcharge anything.. they go strictly by displacement, so maybe give them a call see what kinda rates they could offer you. To them a 1200 Harley is actually pricier to insure than a ZX10R, as stupid as it sounds.

OK, you're right in your under 4K comment, but ALL modern Ducs don't make any power under 4K. If you're riding a Streetfighter at 4K rpm and under, you shouldn't be riding a Streetfighter - that's like hypermiling on any supersport. The Streetfighter will easily power wheelie right through 3rd gear - a definitive hooligan bike.

So you leave the lights and putter around parking lots at 5000rpm?

Of course its a hooligan bike, but it ain't twitchy.

Kawi ZRX11/12's are also ok

Friend just got a Hyabusa 1300 which he said his new company considers a sport-tourer so it's only $10/month more than he was paying for his SV1000 through StateFarm.

Oh wait, Hyabusa 1300 is not 1000cc's... I fail at reading thread title.

Considering when it first came out it was the fastest production motorcycle on the road at a top speed of 312kmh, I am totally surprised to see that your friend got it rated as a sport-touring bike. It has nothing touring about it. Lucky him!

Busas are awesome for touring... if you wanna go far and get there fast, Busa or ZX14 are excellent choices imo. Comfortable stable bikes, and you can strap luggage on em ;)

Yeah he even said, "This thing is insane. I don't get why it's not classed as a super sport."

I'm not sure what company he's with.

Probably because there so ugly, that they dont expect anyone to actually own one, better yet ride and insure the thing!

lol I agree. It looks like a manatee. Still a cool bike though.

Ya I'm pretty sure he is incorrect the busa model number is gsxr1300, any gsxr is surchaged I'm pretty sure. But if he's getting a break
on insurance for the busa, figure out what company he is with cause I'd like to know.

Suzuki considers it sport touring because of riding position and comfort I belive, but insurance companies consider it ss.

Just asked. Allstate.

Since Jevco now only surcharge the superbikes, the big Ducati Monsters such as M900, S2R, S4R and 1100 are good. Also ST2 and ST4 sport tourers.

Busa is a GSX1300R... kinda like a Katana GSX600F. They're just letters, not sure why it matters to the companies... but yeah, the Busa is not a GSX-R.

do you have a copy of Jevco's current surcharge list? I got a copy from my broker but it's a year or 2 old

EDIT: Just called Allstate, and they require full M license. Looks like I'm stuck with Jevco for another season.

Strange. He told me he's only considering getting his full M this year. Maybe I misunderstood.
