$10 gift card for each battery recycled at Princess Auto

If I show up with half a dozen SLA batteries, think they'd tell me to go fk my hat? Worth a shot either way, will try tomorrow over lunch break.

If they turn me away, or my morals get in the way, I'll post then here for pickup in case anyone else wants to capitalize on this and ISN'T a hoarder...

I can't stand shopping at their Heartland store or just going there in person. Parking and looking for it is treacherous with all the PU trucks taking up every parking space. Not a place to take a new vehicle in my view.

The shelves are usually empty following their sales flyers and always a long lineup at their return counter.

Has anyone found a good time of the day to get in and out of the place?

Any time before noon, if you have the luxury of being able to make it. It's the closest store to me and I took an early lunch a couple of times, 10am and it was just me and a handful of people.

On the more dubious side, shopping in the early morning, during severe weather is great. I went there during the January snowstorm and it was the store staff, one other customer, and me.

Most scrap yards pay by weight for lead acid batteries a car battery can be up to 30 or so

Can you recommend a place? The last time I looked at metal recycling, it didn't seem worth it. I just checked again, and Peel Recycling is only offering 24 cents/lb for automotive batteries.

I'll wait for SS answer as $30 a battery is better than 10 but this is a good opportunity to clear out the dead battery corner of the garage. I wonder if they'll take SLA's. Are they "commercial"?

Confirmed. I brought in 6 batteries to PA at noon -- 2 UPS gel cells, 3 motorcycle lead acid and one automotive battery. They took them all and gave me a gift card for $67.80 ($60 credit + HST). For me, that's a great deal because it's not worth my time to look for a scrap dealer.

I have a couple batteries laying around that can go. I might keep one for wiring testing purposes and what not but the rest can GTFO.

Awesome, thanks.

Damn, I just threw out 2 old bike batteries last month thinking "Why the hell am I still hanging on to these?" Oh well, maybe this will help others. Page 12 of this week's new flyer:

Thank you fine sir. Garage space regained, up $50. Cut your ups batteries apart and get $20 back for something that cost you $100 to start. Good deal.

Edit:
Then I picked up 5 gallons of high test. Revenue neutral trip.

Me too! 5 batteries yesterday! Then spent 25 bucks in the store. They'll get the other 25 eventually.

Dammit, I just took 5 batteries to our transfer station for free disposal not 2 weeks ago.

We used to do this for our Christmas shopping back when the kids were little. Wait until the first big snowstorm in December, and out we'd go. Prime pickings, and empty stores.
