#1 Reason to get your full M right away

I obtained my G1 a couple years before my M1. Then I got my M2. I've been riding for a few summers as an M2G1 and never bothered upgrading. Earlier this year I received notice the pic on my license needed renewal as it had been 5 years since my G1.

When I went in for the new pic at the 777 Bay St location I was told my M2 would need to be dropped and re-written as they couldn't issue a new license with a temporary classed license. After 4 hours from when I first got my number, I left, after re-writing the M1, had my picture taken and told to go to Drive Test center to book an M2 exit date (though now technically being bumped down to M1 class license holder).

Arrive at Drive Test next day. After another 4 hours and 4 more calls to hotline I'm told 777 Bay St was wrong, and issued a temporary M2 card, valid for up to 3 months. I have my pic taken again and I'm told I can book an M2 exit the following day online and can go home to receive my new license by email.

It's been over 2 months and I have NOT received my new license. I am unable to book an M2 exit by computer as I was told I would be. My temp license is expiring in a matter of weeks and tomorrow I'm going to Drive Test AGAIN, @#$%! Moral of the story: these people are incompetent, keep having to call around because no one understands the system and one ministry office interprets it differently than the next, and I wouldn't have had this issue had I just upgraded my license asap. So do it, ****ers.

Hm, my M2 expires in November, although I have a GM2, I guess I should stop putting it off.

Hopefully it all works out for you.

How long do you have to hold your M2 license before you can go for a M?

Yikes, makes me glad I did it as soon as I could

For what its worth, it took almost 2.5 months for my gf to get her latest license in the mail, full G that is.

Passed the test end of March, and just received it this Friday.

DriveTest is NOT a ministry office, they are outsourced outfit that only does tests.

Sometimes they don't bother sending cards for temporary classes because they know they will be invalid in a month.

If I get enough experience under my belt this season, I will do my M in September.

Arrived and spoke to reception who said my license is showing as an M1. Great start. Imagine I had been pulled over?

Never had the problem. Went in with GM2, got photo, temp. GM2, and GM2 came in mail.

I plan to do my M2 exit as close to the 18 months as I can. For two reasons, 1) I plan to do it through one of the weekend courses, so having some more time with an instructor is valuable and 2) Insurance rates improve with your M for some companies. So I may be able to get more competitive quotes.

Very few people have an M class licensed without a G class license. When this happens they get confused as hell and don't know what the fawk to do. The ministry expects that most people will go:

G1-G2-G-GM1-GM2-GM

Once you hold a G2M2, G1M2, etc. things get VERY VERY weird where no one has any idea what expires when. I'm guessing some software idiot only made one date for "expiry" in their system which is causing all these problems.

Wait till you have your Full M but not not your Full G. You could have 10 years of riding experience and State Farm won't insure you and you'll never be able to get good rates for an SS bike while some idiot of the Street with a GM1 pays peanuts for his new Gixxer. So glad I've got my GM and am done with that crap system.

I think that with enough patience you can straighten this up. I'd hold on to the old one that says "G1M2" with the expiry date, just so that you have something to support your words.

Left DriveTest being told they would call me the following day (today) with my answer. It's now 7 PM. I've received no phone call.

Get off your ***** and get the your full licenses as soon as you can.
Don't mess around and then get all bent out of shape when IT hits the fan!

Rant off!
