Hi everyone, decided to grab a track bike this year and do more of it... my question is this.. I actually heard that certain tracks only allow you on with 1 pc. suits, is this true? Im wondering if I should get a 1 pc? or if 2 pc. is good enough... gotta admit 1 pc arent very comfortable.. at least not any that I have tried on.

If its true about the certain 1 pc. "only" tracks can anyone tell me which tracks they are?

appreciate any help, cheers

Don't take this the wrong way, but 1 piece suits are supposed to feel good only when you're in the riding position/crouch. They're supposed to be tight, they're supposed to be uncomfortable when trying to walk upright in them, and they'll save your arse when/if the time comes because of what you may deem the uncomfortable properties (many, many discussions have been had on the benefits of 1 piece versus 2 piece on many bike forums).

Get a one piece (heck, if you think you've got special bumps and humps that may add to the overall discomfort, have one tailormade for you with one of GTAM's vendors - Velocity), some of the best money you'll spend for your track days.

Also decide what extra armour your going to wear (back/chest protector, padded shorts) as this will alter the fit.

I'm going to disagree with everyone here. I have ridden at every track in ontario with almost every organization. I have worn a two piece to all of them. If you are planning on racing just get the one piece right away and be done with it but if you are more comfortable in a 2 and only plan on doing trackdays, stick with the two and make sure you have a good back/chest protector. You don't have to spend alot of money to do track days

Make sure if you go with a 2 that it have a 360 ipper attachment. Velcro or less than 360 will not be accepted by any track

Whoaa whoaa I am confused. I always thought you could use a 2pc then recently I've been hearing a one piece. Now in this thread some of y'all are say one piece and some saying two?!

Which is it?

Two piece is allowed at track days.

Pretty sure the gist of what the thread is evolving to is that you (i.e. OP or anyone else thinking about it) should wear whichever you most feel comfortable with in a "casual" situation UNLESS the OP is looking to get into some serious track time via racing (which warrants a one piece).

I too was under the impression that some tracks/organizations wouldn't let you wear a 2 piece, HOWEVER, I qualify this statement in that I may be confusing Ontario tracks with some U.S. tracks given I spend a lot of time on other (predominantly U.S. based) bike forums and therefore may be confusing the issue in my head. I'll let the true racers (and affacionados alike) on this board chime in and correct this assumption.

I've worn both at track days and was imediatley more comfortable with a 1 pc. Eliminating the waist seam made a world of difference.

Hell you can go racing with SOAR with a 2 piece suit that has a full 360 zipper on it. That being said i hate my 2 piece, jacket with a textile pant for the street, one piece for the track.

THere are several types of 2pc. Poser typers nothing joining the jacket and pants, good for Tim's,, cruising types with a one foot draft zipper on the back, comfy types with a 360 zipper sewn into spandex. and a track type with a good zipper full 360 sewn to leather.
So the poser one is no good for track, the cruising type,or the comfy type. Some organizations don"t really understand the differance so you may sneak thru.
But the quality day provders won"t allow it. Plus you would be stupid to use one of the first three and have you jacket up under your armpits sliding down the track.
Don"T go and by comfy pants and then come to me and ask me to sew the zipper in for your jacket. If they don"t come as a set it won"t happen for cheap. So a good track two piece zipped up will not fit much different then a 1 piece. Lets use a Spyke two piece as example. Great track suit steel zipper and designed for the bad day.
It will have more bulk in the middle becasue the two overlap. So the jacket overlaps the pants. But allows you options as it is made for street and track so it's accomodating.
A good one piece allows you more flexability. A good one piece fits you on the bike,,not standing at Timmies. That is why most racer/track day guys unzip the suit while they are not riding. If you crash in a 2 piece and slid on your wasit/hip area,, expect to pay more money for repairs.
And altering a 2 piece,,,, forget it.
So to refresh,, 2piece zippers must be sewn to leather not the liner or spandex
And bought as a suit,
Designed for the track with solid zippers.
If your zipper fails trackside, slim chance anybody would stock the zipper you need to make it work. So your day is done.
Sucks becasue you spent how much money and time for a day with seven 20 minute sessions.

You couldn't get any better advice than this.

I can't lift my arm high enough in my 1 piece to hang my warmers on my canopy. I have to breathe in to zip it up. I have to have help to get my arm out the sleeve. On my bike (where it counts) I hardly notice it's on.

alpinestar GP pants it is then... well that saved me some money. Thanks guys

Thanks for all the input Peeps... seems to me I should go with a 1pc. after all it is there to save your *** and not comfort. Maybe I will check out Riders Choice I saw they are having a 1pc suit sale... hopefully its still on and I can find something..

cheers

i'd like to ad my 0.02's to this thread as recently I did a lot of research trying to chose the most protection I could be still be comfortable on the street. I never planed to use this setup on the track only the street. I ended up deciding on a Alpinestars Carver 2pc as it seemed like a pretty good solution to my wants and needs and fit within my budget. Now this is were the issue came in. I purchased it last week and went to wear it for the first time on Saturday. I went out for approx a 400km ride and the suit felt great. It was comfortable enough and breathed well. When I got home I removed the suit and hung it back on the hanger. I went to take pics to show some friends and noticed the leather sitting funny in the front so I had a closer look.

It appeared the seam on the inside had be sewn incorrectly weird but no big deal I would just have to deal with it being asymmetrical. Then I thought to myself well lets check the rest of the suit over and that's when I became appalled. The front part of the zipper has started to come un-stiched, A seam on the right side of the jacket is coming un-stiched and a seam on the left side of the jacket has become un-stiched and lastly some of the liner is coming apart from the jacket! Disappointed to say the least as I expected better quality out of something that is supposed to save my *** possibly.

I already contacted Alpinestars and the seemed more then willing to take it back now lets just see what happens when i visit the retailer. I wont be looking for a refund but will likely not be purchasing another Alpinestars suit.

Here are some of the pics of the issues .
