08 White/Red R1 Stolen last night In Waterloo region.

OP that sucks! Sounds like you had it secured very well! Sure takes the fun out of owning a bike when you always have to worry if it is still going to be there...

im guessing the ktm is a popular bike. also it costs 10k new.

I think I have only seen one.. at the bike show...

This is what they kinda look like...

hey bro, that's totally crazy ! we got to demo these guy's if they turn-up.

i can't believe that happened in KW, i leave my bike outfront and for 3yrs no-one has even tried to take the cover off and have a look; but it's no new R1 so maybe they know what they are after.

what i do not understand is where do all these minty new sportbike's end up, are they really stripped.. it's only stock part's so why bother. are they shipped outta country, can't insurance companies recognize a foriegn or stolen VIN ? or do these guy's just have the ball's to ride a stolen bike around with no insurance ?

i suspect they get shipped to the US. much bigger market there and US is right next door. and different jurisdiction so police most likely won't do follow up.

you are most likely correct, that seem's to be very plausable. wow, you gotta hope some bargain seeker doesn't go south and buy a SS and bring it back to only find out it's "hot" ! my friend drove a VW bettle to vancouver back in the late 90's and when he did his drive clean they said the shell was a stolen bug; so he drove all the way across the country only to be car-less in a new town ! this could be the same feeling of anger for someone who import's a former stolen bike, wish these punk's would just get a day-job like me but maybe this fast money is funding their fast lifestyle's ?

WHAT!?!?! how does THAT happen? so he got his bike jacked and MADE money?

Let's say the bike is worth 7k on average, but he bought it last year at a fantastic deal of 5k from a friend.
The insurance doesn't pay out based on what you paid for it, they pay out on how much it costs for you to get another one just like the one you had.

Condo owners just shouldnt own bikes. Its sad but true.

It's not just bikes that get stolen from Condos. 2 months ago, my buddy had his Honda Civic stolen right out of the underground parking garage where he lives upstairs.
If they are determined to steal your bike, they'll get it. That's what theft insurance is for.

To the OP, sorry about your loss. I grew up in Waterloo and back in the days we never locked any doors/windows/garage. No bike lock for my 16speed either.

the unfortunate truth, ss bike + condo = stolen...must be some nervous types on here right now...how the hell does a thief destroy a cement pole...we gotta see pics on this one...

Sorry to hear..:

OP, how thick was this concrete pole/pillar? Sorry for your loss, but what's done is done; now the only thing left to do is satisfy our curiosity!

I'm genuinely curious now... Have you spoken to you building management? Who's on the hook for repairing damages to the building?

I would not mention anything about a chain being there when talking ot property management. They'll put him on the hook for the bill since it was his chain and modification that caused the damage. Instead get on their *** about the lack of security.
