Inspect the o-ring, if it is in good condition with no nicks or cuts in it and it fits in the groove ok, reuse it. I have reused many o-rings with no problems.

If the engine had a miss at idle I would look at for a ignition problem, but your low idle sounds like your carburetor(s) may have a pilot jet that is gummed up.

forget about try to blip the throttle for now, concentrate on using your brakes
