    2024 WSBK/WSS Discussion Thread

JR's video blog is out. Different perspective having just been there. And, at 8:30, I'm just out of view ...

    2024 WSBK/WSS Discussion Thread

Oh, yes. I did the Pit Walk on Saturday. I spotted James Toseland in pit lane but he had to run off to take care of Eurosport duties. A bunch of, err, "older" riders were participating in a BSB support class for BMW F900R spec bikes, and I recognised some names that were mentioned, but I...

    2024 WSBK/WSS Discussion Thread

I'm currently in a hotel next to Heathrow, on the way home from having watched Donington Park WorldSBK in person. Flight home is tomorrow. Wow. What an experience! I'm going to have to watch it on videopass again to catch what I didn't see from wherever my vantage point was at the time ... but...

Buying a new motorcycle without test drive

Don't buy your dream bike as your first bike. Your first bike should be something small, light, old, and cheap, but roadworthy. Something you'll ride, but have no long term attachment to. Cheap learner bikes can usually be sold on for little or no financial loss as long as you don't completely...

    XSR900 vs. STriple 765

I believe if you want an XSR, it has to be the GP version (not on this side of the pond yet) if you want better suspension.

    XSR900 vs. STriple 765

I have hire-bike experience with that bike's predecessor (F800R) and a cousin (F900XR). I've always rented these because they're lighter than the BMW models that everyone wants (1200-1250 flat twins). Would rent again. Wouldn't buy. Not interesting enough. Out of the previous models the F800R...

    Electric Lawn Mower?

I bought a Yardworks 17" 48v for a sale price at Canadian Tire. I just did the front and back lawn including the adjacent parts of the neighbors lawns on both sides. No problem.

    Long covid

My situation was a lengthy but mild case. Well. Knock on wood but I think I'm over it "good enough". Rode 2 days at a race weekend at Grand Bend (and Saturday was hot - drank 5+ litres of water and juice), drove 4 hours, did 2 track days at Grattan, drove 6 hours home with a snooze overnight in...

Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

That particular one was strictly a concept vehicle. There's going to be an EV and a strong-hybrid Ram truck in the not too distant future, but they'll have the same basic form as the regular Ram truck.

    Electric Lawn Mower?

Revisiting this thread, because this morning, about a quarter of the way through mowing the front lawn, my 20+ year old Black and Decker cord lawnmower suddenly lost power and slowed down, then let out smoke and smelled bad, then popped the circuit breaker and stopped. Total area front and back...

    More automatic transmissions

A manual transmission is becoming an anti-theft device. Lots of people don't know what a clutch does or why it is necessary, nevermind know how to use one. Learning how to use a clutch while also learning how to operate a motorcycle may be a bridge too far, so if this helps people get on two...

Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

Thing is, all of that is already in production for the Rivian R1 platform, and the R2 platform has already been engineered and probably (I don't know for sure) uses similar architecture to the R1 only smaller, and it isn't at all similar to how VW does things. What has become apparent, is that...

    How to get 600v

Think someone already caught this but we need volts, amps, and type of load (s). If it's heavy duty stuff with high loads then it needs a proper 3-phase service, no two ways about it, and it's going to be engineered and need permits etc, bring lots of money because you'll need it. If it's...

I didn't see that coming, but the connection makes a whole lot of sense.

Every Thursday Group ride. Steels and finacial dr Mississauga

Out, getting ready for a race weekend followed by a couple of track days at Grattan MI. Too many things to do today. I'm out for the next few weeks. Next week I'm coming back from Grattan, and I am in the UK for the two weeks after that.

Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

... to the surprise of nobody. Coincidentally, I saw one on the road yesterday. Keeping those on the road could pose a challenge.

Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

No question there's work to be done. Charging stations need idle fees (many do). And those need to be punitive, to get people to move their cars when done. Ideally the charges at a fast-charger should ramp up when past (say) 90% to discourage people from going to 100% ( which takes forever)...

Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

You're thinking like the owner of a petrol vehicle. (Not uncommon) I took the Bolt to CSBK at Grand Bend last weekend. There and back slightly exceeds the car's range. Checked Plugshare (as charging infrastructure expands, the need to plan ahead will become less). There's a ChargePoint across...

    KTM RC 390...experiences or input?

I test-rode one a couple years older than that. My race bike is a Yamaha R3 with a lot of aftermarket stuff, so that's my point of reference. Compared to that, the KTM is a little rough, lacks refinement, but the fun factor is certainly there. Owner of that bike hasn't had any issues with it.
