2023 Ride Report - North Shore of St. Lawrence

Awesome ride report Shane! Bringing back memories from my trip to Saguenay back in 2020 (Ride Report: A Newbie's Odyssey to Sanguenay) The 381 is just brilliant. I remember it fondly. Here are three pics I snapped on it!

    Fall Riding in Appalachia

Shane, one more question. I've heard speed limits are strictly enforced in Virginia and I was kind of avoiding the state for that reason. Have you had any bad experiences or heard much about that? I wanted to check out Skyline Drive at some point, but it does seem like it may be a bore to be...

    Fall Riding in Appalachia

Hi guys, I'm trying to plan a fall trip and because of life things lining up, I'm worried it's getting pushed later than I'd usually like. I found the last week of September to be a great time for a trip last year to New Hampshire. It wasn't quite peak foliage, but the weather was well balanced...

How much do you pay for insurance?

Thanks! I don't fully understand how this works though. I'm still paying my normal premium through the winter months. Is the implication that if I cancelled the policy for those months, that cost would be added to the premium when I re-instate it in Spring? That's no fun. I want to be able to...

How much do you pay for insurance?

If one has two bikes on the same policy, is it a viable strategy to take one of the bikes off the policy during the winter months (risking fire/theft)? I know they punish you if you try to cancel the policy altogether, but I would still save several hundred dollars by doing this

Ride Report: Fall Trip to the New Hampshire Mountains

Damn I'm jealous! Yeah I think clear skies in late September was a bit too much to hope for. Perhaps a second summer trip is in order.

Ride Report: Fall Trip to the New Hampshire Mountains

Yeah I think Google is definitely a PIA to plan a trip with. Rever isn't too bad. It does change your route sometimes...But it depends on how many waypoints you use. If you use the waypoints smartly, it won't change it. Also, the "route line" function never changes, so if you can live without...

Ride Report: Fall Trip to the New Hampshire Mountains

Yes I use it to plan most of my longer rides. I like it but it's not perfect. I think the biggest issue I have with it is that it requires an internet connection to get the turn by turn directions going. You can download your ride and if you have it on when you go somewhere without internet, it...

Ride Report: Fall Trip to the New Hampshire Mountains

Day 7: Lake George, NY to Syracuse-ish ~374km The journey homeward continued. I realized afterwards that I could have ridden farther, but I'd been conservative in planning. I think this was a combination of this day being faster roads and also my stamina had increased after getting used to...

Ride Report: Fall Trip to the New Hampshire Mountains

Happy to oblige! I've always enjoyed ride reports, including your own! Unfortunately I missed that road!! Damn, wish I'd taken it but I will keep it in the bank for next time!

Ride Report: Fall Trip to the New Hampshire Mountains

Day 6: N Conway to Lake George, NY ~433km It was with a heavy heart that I woke up to start this day's ride as I knew it was the beginning of the end. It was time for the return journey. It was cold too. Around 10 degrees when I set off, and got down to 7-8 with lots of wind through the higher...

Ride Report: Fall Trip to the New Hampshire Mountains

More pics from day 5! View from the look out at the end of the hike. On the right side of the road down there you can see the parking lot where the bike was. Farther down than it looks! Another cool shot from the hike Diana's Baths, which was worth a casual stroll Nice spot for sunset...

Ride Report: Fall Trip to the New Hampshire Mountains

Day 5 Rest Day - Mount Washington & Some Hiking ~90km Day 5 was the bucket list day for me. I had been dreaming of riding up the Mount Washington Auto road for a long time, and it was the impetus for going on this trip in the first place. I knew of course that going at this time of the year, I...

Ride Report: Fall Trip to the New Hampshire Mountains

Sorry! Didn't mean to talk it down too much! It was definitely an awesome awesome road and 100% worth doing if you're there. I think part of it was that I'd hyped it up so much in my own head and I think I had an unfounded paranoia that since it's such a popular road, I have to be careful of...

Ride Report: Fall Trip to the New Hampshire Mountains

More pics from Day 4! In typical fashion, the landscapes just can't be captured on camera. Met a cool Harley rider and a couple of ADV bros that took the pic on the Maine Rt 113 from Gilead. Seems like a popular spot for riders! And apparently it's part of the BDR? Bear Notch Rd. is...

Ride Report: Fall Trip to the New Hampshire Mountains

Day 4 Vershire VT to North Conway, NH ~ 360km The valley-mountain geography was so clear to me in this trip. I basically went through the infinite valley (Ontario/West NY) into the Adirondack mountains. Then through another valley before hitting Vermont's Green mountains. And then there was...

Ride Report: Fall Trip to the New Hampshire Mountains

Day 3 Ticonderoga NY to Vershire VT ~ 375km Woke up on day 3 and praised sol for showing his happy face. Lots of hair-dryer-in-the-boots had left them mostly dry by morning and the rest of my gear was in okay condition so I set off for Vermont! This might have been my favourite day as a...

Ride Report: Fall Trip to the New Hampshire Mountains

The border crossing was super painless for me both ways. Barely any wait, they asked "Are you vaccinated?" I said yes. They nodded and waved me through. Never brought out the card, didn't even have to take my helmet off. It's the OEM one! Came with the bike (bought it used)
