    Mardi gras

I rode to New Orleans the first week in April about ten years ago, froze my *** off the first day and stopped the first night in Louisville Kentucky. Woke up the next morning and had beautiful springlike weather the rest of the way.

    Mardi gras

Any of the big hotels downtown will have parking.Weather down there can be nice during Mardi Gras but on the way down at that time of year is a whole different story. To be quite honest with you, I would skip Mardi Gras, it’s actually a little bit too crazy and difficult to find...

Just needed to post this somewhere

As an electrical contractor I can say that truer words have never been spoken. Another one of my favourite sayings “You pay peanuts, you get monkeys”

    Charlie

I had the opportunity to work setting up a Stones show at the Rogers Centre in 2005 , I think. It was a dream come true since I’m such a huge fan. After the sound check the band got into their limos waiting behind the stage to be whisked away, except for Charlie. He walked off the stage and over...

    Wiring relay question

I would skip the relay and wire your charger straight to the tail light wire with an inline fuse fuse holder and a 1 or 2 amp fuse. The charger draws barely anything. You’re making it more complicated than it needs to be

How much do you pay for insurance?

Don’t get me started on insurance. My wife had a 2008 Bonneville with an M2 licence , riding for less than 2 seasons and could barely get around the block safely and just wasn’t riding it. We decided to switch it into my name and I would ride it.I’ve been licensed for over 40 years , no tickets...

    Classic / Muscle Cars - Do's and Dont's?

A popular mod that doesn’t take away from the value is either an overdrive automatic transmission or 5 speed manual. It lets you enjoy the low gear ratios that many muscle cars have and still be able to cruise at highway speeds. Just hang on to the original components ( if they are original)...

    Jokes

I came home a few years back and asked my wife what she would like for Christmas .She said “A divorce”.I told her that I wasn’t planning on spending that much. Unfortunately , a true story.

Is it dangerous to store bike a dealership over winter?

This story sounds familiar. Was it a Kawasaki dealership in the east end that went into receivership and did your friend break into the dealership to steal his race bike back?

    Inverter?

I bought a Honda EU2000 inverter generator for about $1200-$1300 taxes in about ten years ago and it has performed flawlessly. I just checked Kijiji and they are asking $900-$1100 for them used. Not a bad investment if you ask me.

    Inverter?

I must have given a dozen people very reasonable quotes to install backup generators after the 2013 ice storm. Not one of those people ended getting a generator. Not everyone needs a permanently installed backup generator but everyone should at least have a portable 1500-2000w generator and know...

    120v welders

To the OP, bite the bullet and spend a few more bucks and get a dual voltage welder and install a 240v outlet when you are able to. Hobart makes some nice ones. Check the TSC flyers, they go on sale every few weeks. The Hobart Handler 190 is a nice little unit. The 120v units are a dime a dozen...

    120v welders

I’m pretty sure that all new homes ,starting Jan.1/2019 are required to have a 200amp service with a 1” conduit running from the main panel to the garage for future charging stations

    120v welders

Actually a licensed electrician can’t legally work on anyone’s house but his own.He must also have a contractors licence or be employed by someone that does.

    Chuck Yeager

Saw him being interviewed at the Osh Kosh Airshow about ten years ago. Real interesting , no nonsense kind of guy. I remember him saying one of the gifts that made him such a great fighter pilot was his eyesight. He saiid he could see the German fighters way before they could see him.

    Hot tub anyone?

Totally different. The poor method of terminating an aluminum conductor on cheap receptacles or switches was the problem. If properly terminated, there is nothing wrong with aluminum conductors. I can almost guarantee that the wires coming in from the street, feeding power to your house are...

    Mice

I know I’ve said this before but for about five years I use to catch a mouse almost every day in the traps in my garage. I put two of those cheap little plug in ultra sonic mouse repellers about three years ago and haven’t caught one since.I us to have nightmares about one of those guys gnawing...

    Hot tub anyone?

If the cost of the electrical is a concern and it’s a long run between the panel and tub, you may want to consider using aluminum conductors. Aluminum Teck cable is half the price of copper, you can direct bury it and is a huge savings when used for long runs, especially when you you have to...

    Mice are annoying!

i set traps in my garage and for about 4 years I got a mouse almost everyday until I found one in the air box of my ST1300. I put two of those little plug in ultra sonic mouse repellers in about two years ago and haven’t caught one since.

    Generators

As GreyGhost said ,it acts as a transfer switch. It has a mechanical interlock. When you plug the chord (included) into the Generlink, it isolates your home from the grid and allows you to safely feed power to your home from your generator.Sounds like it may not be a good option for you due to the...
