I meant to the detriment of the buying public.....to the detriment of the opinion of salespeople in general. You have no idea how often people are scared that I will reach into their pocket and take their wallet when all I want to do is sell them the car they WANT to buy!
It isn't that....any dealer can do that anytime.....some dealers near me are selling the cars as "used". The dealership buys the car at cost (list price of 55k for a Highlander) and marks it up 10k and call it used. Once the car is sold to the dealership the manufacturer stops caring.

I never understand people's need for range for every EV. Some Evs need to be long range but if you can make them cheap enough 100k is fine. Most households have 2 cars. How often do you need to drive 100k in a day with two vehicles? Some people do but a lot don't. Even if that satisfies 30%...

I work at a car dealership....over the last 17 years the profit coming from new car sales is approximately 10% of service. Sales exists to feed service. They aren't making bank on new car sales or at least not what you think they are. (current insane market excluded)
Every year at the Supershow....which I always go to....there are brands there....not just dealers. Yamaha and Honda aren't there usually...but there are new bikes from Ducati and KTM.... and actual BMW and Triumph and HD displays. All I am asking is are they there this year.
How can they make any money from that? If you can do 15 transactions an hour the place is grossing $30....minus my salary etc? Doesn't seem like it would be worth it....I guess they make more for other things? Or just thr volume of other transactions at the same time.
I've checked the website for a Floorplan (years past the had them). Just looking to see who/what will be there. It would be nice to know what we can see. Do you know where you will be placed already?
Exactly...they keep models without changes for longer.....so their tooling/engineering costs are lower. Most of their line up is old engines repurposed in new wrapping. Which is fine. We need cutting edge....but we also need inexpensive and reliable. Is the 650 vstrom the best in class? Nope...
They still sell a lot of bikes....last two years they've sold every offroad vehicle they can make....and they still sell lots of sv's and the V-stroms.
