    Canada Post - Huge losses

Actually, there are VERY few depots that have any electric vehicles at all. My depot just received about 5 of the new right hand drive trucks that are build on the F250 platform. Guessing each one is $90-100K a piece with all the equipment and modifications. CP has purchased over 1000 (from...

The union asked for volunteers to deliver the government cheques. Unfortunately, those volunteers will be working without any form of protection. The depot supervisors waited about 45 minutes after the volunteers departed - they piled into several vans and went out to do “safety inspections” on...

That’s awful… I hate walk through apartment buildings… seriously.. why can’t they have mail rooms like every other civilized apartment building?

It was pretty much what I was expecting to be honest. Front pack would have minimal passing (at best) and Martin, no matter where he was in the pack would just cruise along ‘cause all he needed to do was finish in top 9.

I’m sorry to hear that You Have a lazy postie. Signature items are one thing I don’t mess about with. The only ones that have “wiggle room” are for large apartment buildings over 3 stories with over 30 units.

OK, so that’s a bit of a complicated question. If you’re a route “owner” - you do the same route every single day. Mondays are almost always overtime for everyone. Tuesdays are usually overtime for a majority of posties. Weds-Friday are typically lower volume days, and sometimes posties are...

    Canada Post - Huge losses

The SSD “Routers” (sorters) are expected to sort 12 routes per day. Which is pretty much impossible to do on a heavier day. CP expects that they will be able to eliminate 1/16 of the delivery force by forcing SSD on them. Carriers will be given 30 minutes to do all their prep work...

    Canada Post - Huge losses

Well, that’s not correct. They tried a collation machine in Mississauga for several months and simply couldn’t get it to work right. They tried collation and stuffing into bags - seemed plausible, but then they take too much room in our bags and we can’t carry enough to get from one relay box...

I don’t know about the numbers, but I do know it’s an absolute cash cow. When you consider the amount we are paid per piece and compare to the charge… 90% is pretty much gravy for CP.

    Canada Post - Huge losses

Correct. A *HUGE* number of flyers are simply dropped directly into recycle bins. The only ones that people REALLY want are Canadian Tire and the fast food coupons. Talked with several pizza shop owners, and flyers make a huge surge is sales for them. Dunno about the rest.

For an average flyer, they charge the vendor $0.18. Posties get paid $0.012. For the larger flyers (Canadian Tire), they charge something like $0.27 and posties get something like $0.021. CP makes over a BILLION dollars per year on junk mail. That's how important it is to the corporation

Apparently the time allowances for collation of junk mail is "built into" the routes. The routes in Guelph typically get between 9-15 minutes of time. I don't know how they think it's possible to collate 300-500 sets of 8-12 flyers in that amount of time. In Guelph, our local basically...

Recent movies you saw - recommend or no

Watched “How to Train Your Dragon” for the first time in many years. I forgot how good it actually is. The animation is amazing. The story line even more so.; How a “reject” bonds with an “physically impaired” creature and shows his entire clan the error of their ways of continuous prejudice...

Rant: pulled out of my M test

Engine misfire, potential engine knock (was making a sound it wasn’t before) and fuel leak. Was a 1974 Honda inline 4 of some sort. Don't recall the exact model.

Rant: pulled out of my M test

Had a student a month ago… his bike lasted for the basic safety check, parking lot maneuvers… and about 4km on the highway, and. Another 2km on city streets. It is his labour of love… a ground up rebuild… it hurt to see that happen.

Flash flooding all around Valencia, 72 dead. Roads to the track have been damaged as well as entry to the motor park. The track is apparently undamaged. Going to be interesting to see what happens - if they move forward with the race in Valencia, move it to another location or cancel it...

Felines in Need - For the People who Love Pets

I’m a cat guy…. Have a massive Maine Coon and 2 smaller girls - a calico and a muted tortoise shell. The Torty has some major heart issues - found her in my back yard, tried finding an owner with signs, local social media and a chip check. No luck. I tried surrendering her to a local cat...

Been texting on and off with a friend directly in Tampa Bay, but well away from the coast. It’s nasty, but not so bad where he is. He fears greatly for the coastline and storm surge damage.
