    COVID and the housing market

Exactly!! That was my point all along with the following snippet posted here #3,164: The word investment or investor is now used so loosely that it has lost its meaning. Most people don't know the difference between an investment, a speculation and gambling. Even the media. I've lecture this...

    COVID and the housing market

@Lightcycle You know, for thousands of years the world was flat because that was the consensus opinion. Then some dared to state the world was round. Many were executed for heresy as it did not fit the self-serving narrative of the times. Yes, you can synthetically turn a non-dividend-paying...

    COVID and the housing market

A stock that pays out a dividend provides a CF yield. An investment has a yield whereas a speculation has a capital gain. A bond provides a promised yield through periodic coupon payments. A CSB also has a yield as it pays interest.

I have no clue how to define an education in that context. It is a tool, a skill set, perhaps a commodity or an asset in one's self.

That is correct. If you're expecting a gain without cashflow then Berkshire is a speculation. You are speculating that the price will go up. A far as Buffet goes, most of his capital outlays are investments but some are speculations also. I'm not being condescending here. Just because we...

The distinctions are very clear cut as I have previously stated. However, what's your definition and distinctions between an Investment, Speculation and Gambling? Please enlightens us.

    COVID and the housing market

Like I previously wrote, the word investment or investor is now used so loosely that it has lost its meaning. If a capital outlay does not produce a cash-flow, it not an investment. It's a speculation. It is what it is , like it or not. BTW, a dividend is a return of profit to shareholders and...

On that note, very few houses are investments. The word investment or investor is now used so loosely that it has lost its meaning. Most people don't know the difference between an investment, a speculation and gambling. Even the media. The consensus opinion is that the latter is riskier than...

All this talk about raising the FEDFund rate (BankRate) is mostly jawboning. Push comes to shove, they may raise 25bps pehaps another 25~50bps to save face and be done with it.

I read you. Moreover, I also believe that nothing is impossible. I just think it's improbable given the amount of global debt we have today. The whole western world would collapse if they pulled a Paul Volcker.

The major problem is not as much CMHC's high loan to value mortgage insurance program. It's their bulk Insurance (a.k.a. Portfolio Insurance) which also insure low value to loan mortgages which they sell to banks. Effectively off-loading risk from banks onto the taxpayer via the BoC mortgage...

    COVID and the housing market

I agree. IMO, One way to deflate the housing bubble without the BoC raising the bank rate significantly (which would collapse the rest of the economy) would be to outlaw CMHC's mortgage securitization and insurance program. Moreover, prevent the BoC from purchasing Mortgage Backed Securities...

Motorcycle Skills: What are your 2022 goals?

Riding is a perishable skill. Keeping it up while adding a few more skills would be nice. Defensive road riding is topping my list. Some track day skills would be welcomed. Alleviating my fear of wheelies is always up there given that I'm a lot more mature now at 63 than when I was at 59.

Canadians voted Liberal, Conservative and NDP. Those parties have been creating inflation for 50 years. Moreover those parties even told us prior to the election that they will continue to run massive inflation creating deficits. All I can say to the electorate is "Eat the cake that you baked"...

If GoC bond yields go to 7%, housing prices will crash 80%. Ain't going to happen. Canada has only three sectors: Economically sensitive, Interest rate sensitive, Inflation sensitive, Staying away from the first two would be wise. Caveat Emptor.

I'm pleasantly surprised by your comment. Such as yours are few and far between. I'm one of the late boomers who just turned 63. Yes, we went though some tough times with stagflation of the 70's and a 14% mortgage but not like this. This is worse. Yield and prices are always inversely...

    Pro6 Trac School

I've done the Pro6 track school weekend in 2018. Most bring their own bike but you can rent. Safety check and sound testing are required. Zipped two piece leather or better is required as well as CE L2 back protector. As VFRCBR mentioned, the post lunch classroom topics ( about 1.5 hour) covers...
