The Reasonably Priced Used Motorcycles for Sale Thread

Better photos help
This. The monster I bought last year had crappy photos in FBMP and Kijiji. The asking price was 2k below similar models and with less kms than the comparables. Still, it was getting no attention because of the potato phone pictures. Heck, the add even didn't mentioned it was a 1200, from the pictures it was not clear if it was the 821 or 1200.
At some point I even thought it was a scam.

This can be a great source of deals if you're willing to roll the dice. But the flip side is I've gone to look at similar ads where the bike ends up being even worse than the ad suggests, with crappy photos disguising major problems or proving to be old photos with the bike now being in even worse shape. You have to be willing to immediately walk away, at least, so the farther you have to drive, the bigger the risk.

The same can be said for irritating sellers, who have horrible reading comprehension and getting a straight answer can be like pulling teeth.

For @mimico_polak , though, while I would say the quality of the pics posted in the fall could be improved somewhat, they weren't terrible. I'll be curious if the same price plus better pics draws more attention in a more active spring market.

When I was flipping bikes there for a bit I found PQ ( photo quality ) mattered enough to notice contacts increased. The first photo in particular. Get the background uncluttered and decent lighting for a bit of eye candy.

Good, but I wouldn't crop it that much for FB/Kijiji. You can't trust that they aren't going to automatically crop it further in previews/thumbnails

Don't think it matters for thumbnails and it annoys me when sellers have too small a shot of the bike they are selling surrounded by acres of background. Or too small a pic period.
Don't know about Kiji but Gumtree and FB are WYSIWYG.

So annoying. Bike is up and FBMP continues to swap out the order of the photos. Some people see it, some don't. Some see my #1 pic, some see my #6 pic.

I think yours shows the clocks as the thumbnail for me. Make sure you post via the website and you can usually reorder the photos to make sure the one you want is the thumbnail...

I see the same.

I always prefer posting ads on a computer vs phone app. I find it works better.

Yes, that's the one. I'll do the update at lunch instead of using my phone.

More unsolicited advice time, but if it's my ad, I do a few things:

- Clean those rims! Especially the rear wheel looks dirty, and it's accentuated by the chain lube drips. Ironically, the 'golden hour' pics are really highlighting that and it pops out when I look at it on my computer. I'd also give the clocks a polish with a microfibre cloth before taking a close-up so they look crystal clear and shiny.
- Take off the bags or fill them up. The saggy, empty bags do nothing for the lines of the bike and make it look like a limp commuter rather than the fun machine it is. If it's not too much work, I'd take off the screen, too, but that might be a personal preference thing. Both the bags and the screen make the bike look more practical, but you're selling a Ducati, not a KLR.
- Tuck away the power lead coming from under the seat on the right side. Again, practical but not sexy.

My assumption is that anyone looking for an 800 Scrambler is thinking light, fun, retro, minimalist, possibly city bike as their wants. They may discover later that they want bags, a screen and a power lead, but that's not how the bike is targeted.

All just my opinion, of course! Hope this doesn't come across as too critical or patronising, that's certainly not the intent. I just know how long you've wanted to shift it and am trying to give you my first impressions when looking at the ad and photos. Of course, for the right buyer, none of the above may matter...

Good call! I'll clean it up and remove the bags. The windscreen is a major pain to put on/off.

Thanks!

Add is getting there... but.

Look at gpbikes used selection.
2019. 5,000km. Priced in the same ballpark (within $500).

But someone can finance this, and its coming from a dealer.

Try and get what you can, but you may be a bit high.

Oof…might be in the overpriced territory. Thanks. Not sure how I missed that.

That GP bikes ad looks like a 400 as it's missing the exhaust hump on the side.

You’re correct. That’s the 400cc version.

EDIT: Confirmed 400cc...

But there's a 2018 800cc version...

MP, no mention of safety cert? Yes? No?

Also, most Ducati folks will likely know, but some less familiar with the brand may not know what "Desmo" refers to. Were it my ad, I would simply state that the timing belts have been replaced and the valves have been adjusted, by a professional technician.

Good luck with the sale.

All good points that came across my mind as well.

Try to centre the bike in the photo.
One of the ones you had was (almost) cutting off parts of the bike.

I don't like when photos show how the bike is standing in the puddle of water it just got washed in. However, maybe give the bike a nice wash and polish before taking pictures.

About those golden hour photos. I don't like that gimmick. It is a bike ad or a Tourism Toronto ad, trying to get me to come to TO and spend money.

Simple but effective photos. Driveway is fine, parking lot is fine as well. I don't care and would not suggest to get a lot of the empty scenery in the photos.

This ad here is almost perfect. Some photos are actually too up close but they are clear and high res. Bike is also clean and presented well. Description is also good.

I would take out the photos from a trip along the water (in the ad blow, not your ad MP). I don't care where you have travelled to on the bike.
If you are selling cases/bags/accessors, have current pictures of the stuff sitting beside the bike and not from a trip from last season.
