I bought a 1959 Ariel 650 Huntmaster twin in 1965. It was an abused many-ownered bike. But it was the gateway drug to Brit-land. Next step was a new 1966 Norton Atlas, which required replacement with a 1967 Atlas - which led to a 1969 Commando (the 1st of several).

IF the engine runs, warm it up properly, then play with the throttle 'til it hangs. Then check each cable separately to figure which one. My 2cents - worth a try.
