Cheap GPS device @ Canadian Tire, may be great for warm weather rides.

Thanks dyno! worked perfectly

How do you get the POI icons to work? I've downloaded the .bmp and put it in the same folder as the .kml but only default icons show up when I try to change it

make the folder content\userdata\poi\
put the kml file into it...
restart
thats all i did and then set the POI to show speed traps
it shows the cameras as a lil black camera logo on the screen
do a simulated route where you know has a speed trap

That's what I did. I copied the .bmp file that contains the icon there too, but it still displays with the default icon and I cannot find the propper one anywhere in the settings.

I didnt see any bmp/icon file... lol
Just the kml itself

Whichever way I dump it (with or without the .bmp icon file) I get the POIs without the associated icons :(

Hmm odd!
works fine here
sheesh now I cant find how to do a simulation of route again
:happy3:

Vlad

I noticed when you unzip Splash's files, there are some duplicate files in each part or the RAR files. Would you copy over the existing file in the folders. Thanks again for your help.

Those are not separate archives, but one multi-volume archive, just like the zips I re-packed them to on the FTP site. You should get all you need just by unpacking the first archive as it should "know" where the others are and unpack them accordingly. You should not have to unpack any other archives but the first one manually. I know it may sound confusing but I hope it helps

I cant get any TTS voices to work.

Thanks Vlad,

I managed to upack. However, upon browsing the individual folders, i have noticed that some folders contain upacked files such as "voice" folder and "scheme", "language" etc...Do all of these need to be unpacked or can they be left the way they are?

If all else fails, try with \iGO Canada complete. It does not require any configuration and is set up with Susan already. Works for half a dozen of my colleagues I copied it for.

Those should remain as they are, the program uses them like that. Just unpack the archives you downloaded and run.

Hmmmm I am seriously considering opening this sucker up and sealing it to try and weatherproof it as well as to add something to dampen the vibration so I can actually use it on my bike.

If anybody sees some still for sale in the Miss/Brampton area please let me know. My battery is crap and only lasts about an hour. I need to exchange it for another one

Alright as promised, this is how I mounted it to the Bike

most parts I already had purchased in the past for another GPS, but you can buy them as a kit from GPScity.ca

All you need to do is remove the little stud on top with an allen key. then just lightly sand the surface to make it a little rough.

This now easily attaches to the motorcycle handle bars, I am sure there are adapters for the people with clip-ons but I don't have to worry about that :D

Next is take the housing that came with the gps, and break away all the mountings on the back either with a knife or needle nose pliers to start with, and just make sure it is flush, then sand an area same diameter as the one you have in the above picture.

Now to you would need to glue the housing and the circle part in the picture together. I used a 2 part epoxy I had laying around the garage and let it cure for a few hours.

After everything is dried up, I just put ran a little bit of gaulking sealer with a gun around the circle part, just to protect the epoxy from the elements. I am planning on giving it a quick spray of black paint just to make it more eye appealing.

I tried to separate the parts and it won't come off without breaking the housing so that is a good sign. I mounted everything on the bike and took it for a 30 minute spin and everything worked perfect.

I already have two 12v weatherproof plugs from a trip last year mounted on the bike, one by the gauges and I just plugged in the GPS, and voalla.

I suck at two things in life, giving directions and following directions. :)

Hope that helps anyone.

Im planning to mount it to one of the RAM ball mounts with the 2 holes.
Ill drill 2 small holes into the back of the GPS casing and mount the RAM ball onto the back.

If I may suggest Gorilla Glue as an alternative to mixing 2 part epoxy. It doesn't require mixing, applies easily, penetrates well but does not leak, sets as hard as a rock but it's still somewhat "grindable". Most of all, it holds like death :)
